Week 3

|
Wherever you are in the Maldives, you'll never be more than 20 yards away from the beautiful, light turquoise ocean. Once you arrive in the main airport, transfer pontoons whisk you off to your hotel. If you land at night, watch out for reek shark cruising in the moonlight.
Ihuru Island is so small you can walk around it in 5-10 minutes. It's completely surrounded by gorgeously crunchy sand, made up of coral broken into tiny, flat flakes. Hovering above the sand are the canopies of the palm trees and just 3 or 4 metres into the water are the first clumps of living coral and brightly coloured fish.
Ihuru totally typifies the ambience of the Maldives. There is an emphasis on total relaxation with the option of organised activities, like water sports, if required. A typical day might include a spot of snorkelling or windsurfing in the morning, a lazy afternoon in the shade and a walk around the island before dinner.
The best place to while away a couple of hours after your evening meal is on a luxurious lounger on the platform of the terrace bar, watching the twinkling lights on the distant sister islands and relaxing into the gentle, warm Indian Ocean breeze.
