Snap-Happy Hopeful Wins 228 Square Feet Of Fame
A new star is born in Manchester in the UK’s biggest holiday photo competition.
Picture perfect Christian Dean, from Manchester, will be enjoying his fifteen minutes of fame this month as he shares his holiday photo with the entire city. Blown up to 100 times its original size, Christian’s photograph will be displayed on one of Manchester’s biggest advertising billboards in Trinity Way, Manchester after being voted for by hundreds of Britons in a nation-wide competition run by Expedia.co.uk.
Usually occupied by the likes of A-listers Beckham, SJP and Madonna, the 228 square foot poster will now show Christian and five friends relaxing in deck chairs on the island of Antigua, in the Caribbean sun against a backdrop of crystal-clear, blue waters. Taken last summer the photo captures the spirit of holiday and will be inspiring passers by to let themselves go to sunnier climes as we enter one of the coldest winters of the decade. Christian’s moment of ‘fame’ is the result of a competition launched by leading online travel company Expedia.co.uk, offering one lucky winner the chance to see their holiday snap turned into the UK’s biggest holiday photo. And Christian can now capture some more fantastic holiday memories with his additional prize of an Expedia.co.uk holiday worth £2,500.
Eight runners up in Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Norwich, Southampton, Leeds and Newcastle will also see their pictures blown up on billboards in their home towns.
The competition, run as part of Expedia.co.uk’s new ‘Let yourself go’ advertising campaign gives consumers sight of Expedia.co.uk’s new brand identity, launched at the beginning of September. The new brand identity is encapsulated in the tagline ‘Let Yourself Go’ and aims to inspire and excite people about the possibilities of travel.
The competition brings to life the wealth of exciting holiday experiences offered by Expedia.co.uk by inviting travellers to submit real life pictures which captured their favourite holiday moment.
Winner, Christian Dean from Manchester said ‘Who would have thought that my five friends and I would be on the biggest billboard in Manchester! This photo was taken when we were on holiday in Antigua. The picture says it all really- it is just of us letting go on holiday, indulging in a cold beer on the beach in the sun. It was definitely my favourite moment in Antigua.’
