“wonderful staff”

We found this small hotel very comfortable and the people working there very helpful and accommodating, especially Julia, the desk clerk when we arrived. The rooms are done in a quite modern style, even though the building is older, and we enjoyed the decor. The included breakfast was also excellent - a good variety of items and good quality. Would definitely recommend the hotel.

“Not close to Old City as advertised & hard to find”

The hotel is expensive considering that the location is not very convenient. It is 5 street car stops or more from any edge of Old City destination and is not walking distance as it is a steep uphill climb from the Old City area. The hotel's brochure does not show the streetcar routes so I wasted hours trying to find the right streetcar stops near the train station and correct direction of travel, and then find the hotel from the closest streetcar stop. Inquiring of passersby was not much help. With only a 24-hour layover to enjoy Zurich, it was a poor location and overly expensive. Unless you buy a Zurichcard or other unlimited travel pass, you waste a lot of money on transit from the hotel to any tourist destination.

“Variable”

We stayed at the hotel platenhof for three nights in April. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the lake and their are trams within a 3 minute walk. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe with a supermarket, deli and restaurant very close by. The hotel is clean but starting to look a bit dated and it had more of a hostel feel at times. The staff are friendly and the buffet breakfast was good. Our room (209) was bright and a decent size. The hotel has 2 non smoking floors the second and forth. Unfortunately this is not enforced and for 2 nights our room was full of cigarette smoke from neighbouring rooms. This was mentioned to reception and nothing was done. if you hate smoking smells like we do then don't stay here!

“Fantastic Hotel”

While this hotel was described to be a little outside the main area, it was extremely easy to get downtown - in fact a 6 minute tram ride from the main train station. It would have been roughly a 10 minute walk (note, it is uphill if you have heavy luggage). The hotel is right by the University and the neighborhood is lovely. The hotel was in great condition, the staff was very helpful and kind. The cafe/bar in the hotel lobby was busy with both guests and locals, which was nice to see. Also, great drinks! The room was spotless and had eclectic art. Price wise this hotel was significantly less than others in Zurich (an expensive city) and I really feel like I received value for money spent. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would recommend this place to anyone for a mid-range hotel.

“Excellent place to stay in Zurich”

The hotel staff was extremely friendly and spoke fluent English, the room was incredibly clean and the food at the restaurant was delicious. The hotel is within walking distance from downtown Zurich and very close to the university. We were very satisfied with this hotel.

“Perfect!!!!”

Undoubtedly one of THE best hotels I have stayed in. The hotel service exceptional, the reception very helpful and polite, the room was perfect, very clean, warm, comfortable, full of light, the matress great and the bathroom exceptional!!!!!! The location great, very quiet still 10' on foot to Hauptbahnhof, 4' by tram 50 meters from the hotel entrance. Next time i am definitely staying there again and I would really recommenjd it to anyone. It made my stay in zurich really pleasant!

“Cute Boutique Hotel with good breakfast”

Clean boutique hotel! After 30 hours of travel, I was pleased when Plattenhof allowed us to check-in early (9:30 a.m.). It's in a great location close to the university and 10 minutes from down-town. While the rooms are sparsely furnished, the furniture is comfortable and clean with nice down bedding and a small living room.The rooms are somewhat loud, as hallway noise is easily heard, but the comfy bed made up for it. Our TV and phone didn't work in the room, so we had to go downstairs for additional pillows, etc. Breakfast consisted of croissants, cereal, yogurt, and juice.

“Warm, friendly, knowldegeable staff in a quaint hotel”

If you're looking for a quiet hotel that's not too distant from the lively Old Town and Niederdorf spots in Zurich, this is it! The room I stayed in was good-sized and clean. I loved the simple, clean, modern design of the room. The best part of my stay is that the staff was always friendly and willing to help in any way it could. I was impressed by its timely response to my questions about the hotel prior to coming to Zurich. The hotel is easily accessible by tram or by walking from the Kunsthaus.
