“Great Location, Good value for money!”

Great Location, overlooking the river, worth the upgrade. Only downside, trams were too noisy and the room was too hot. Wouldn't put me off staying again though.

“Lovely hotel but disappointing staff and food”

The hotel was lovely but unfortunately the reception staff were not. My boyfriend got food poisoning from the hotel bar and was ill for 24 hours; The reception staff were uninterested, didnt seem to believe us and although explaining we could no longer go on an excursion, they did not offer so much as an apology. The food poisoning ruined our weekend trip and we were very disappointed that the staff didnt care at all considering it was contracted through their bar food

“Sour Taste!”

Overall the hotel was okay although you pay for the location however we were left with a sour taste upon checking out as the key cards cost you 5 Franc if you do not return them. This was not explained when we checked in and had it been we would have been more careful with the key card as up until staying at the Central Plaza no other hotel asked for the cards back nor did they try and charge us for a missing card so we were surprised and disappointed by this policy particularly when you pay a high price just to stay at the Central Plaza. They did not offer to waive the cost of the card so will look for alternative accommodation when next in Zurich.

Area recommendations

Anywhere near the main rail station as the train is a good way to get around and see sights just out of Zurich.

“Great hotel but a tad small!!”

Great hotel- small though for the expensive price. But great location! Super staff and we love the King's Cave! Just a very small room...

“Central to everything”

The staff attitude and quality of service was excellent. There are many cafes/restaurants within easy walking distance which provides plenty of reasonable priced optiosn.The onlly thng that bugs me with Swiss hotels in general is - why don't they provide tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms? I would certainly stay here again.

“Fun visit in Zurich”

Great location, small room, a little noisy; but overall highly recommended. Very convenient to train station and within walking distance of all major shopping, dining and site seeing. Will definitely consider on my next visit to Zurich.

“Fantastic location”

Exceptional location. Very close to the railway station, direct train from the airport or the no. 10 tram takes you to the door. Trams from directly outside the hotel take you anywhere you want to go. Highly recommend the Chagall & Polke stained glass windows and the Kunsthaus Art Gallery is exceptional. Rooms & Service very adequate. We had a room on the 3rd floor with a balcony with great views - don't book this if the smell of stale smoke bothers you. The continental breakfast was a little mean especially as this has to be the most expensive city on the planet. Hubby found the bed extremely soft for his bad back. Otherwise very pleasant and would go back.

Area recommendations

All around the hotel extremely picturesque for wandering around - all cobbled streets and no cars.

“GREAT LOCATION -- perfect for the 1st time traveler from the U.S. to Europe”

This hotel was great - it was easily located across from the train station. Be careful crossing though - busy intersection. Very easy walk to old town, boat cruises on the lake and museums. The room was exceptionally clean and I thought fairly large for a European city. They also provided an adapter for the sockets. This room was also quiet which I understand is a rarity in this busy city. There were only 2 cons: 1.) the a/c is not like it is here - the room was warm, BUT the staff quickly brought in a fan for the room which was perfect. You can't open the windows or it's way too noisy. 2.) no wireless but they said they were working on that as well There is a restaurant and 2 bars on site but be aware that they are expensive- the wait staff is very nice though. The location, cleanliness, and size with the price can't be beat in Zurich. I would definitely stay there again.

Area recommendations

The old town was just amazing - mazes of shops, restaurants, historical homes and churches. Also in the central and old town areas, there are lots of "take-away" restaurants that allow you to save some $$ on food and beverages.

When to go

I would go in the spring and early summer. I can't imagine going in the heat of the summer when it's really crowded.

Getting there

Take the Zurich HB train to the main station. I'd recommend a Zurich pass if you are going to do a lot of sight seeing. This gives you unlimited rides on trains, buses, and a cruise on Zurich Lake. It also gives you free admission to the museum.

Getting around

Walking is wonderful and easy. If you are going to see alot of stuff on the outskirts, the bus or train is fine.

What to pack

Comfortable walking shoes, jacket/sweater, long pants (even in early summer!). Also, get an adapter - the outlets are different. Make sure your bank and cell phone know you are going oversees.

Must see

The churches, cruise on Lake Zurich, the Swiss Museum, and stroll through all the streets of old town while stopping for beer or wine. Also, hike up to the university area - the views are great! Take one of the tours to the mountains if you have time. Also, a short train ride to Winterthur offers you a day in a wonderful smaller town with plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars.
