"Excellent hotel: v helpful staff, nice breakfast!"
Slightly tired building, but great location, very clean, very generous (tasty) breakfast, first class reception staff! Highly recommend this hotel, which is not very expensive, and suited our large skiing group. Right opposite train station, so easy for to and from Munich airport, but, importantly, also the Zugspitze train which stops at main lifts to skiing areas, including a super, though pricey, ride to top of Zugspitze (highest German mountain, at about 3K metres).
Great location for hiking (right behind hotel) and skiing. Train stop just 3 minutes walk away. It is away from main Gamisch downtown (15 minutes train ride) where all the shops and restaurants. Excellent compliments breakfast and customers services!
We had an overnight stop in the Mercure whilst driving the German Alpine Road (this runs for about 660 miles from Lindau on Lake Constance to Berchtesgaden near Salzburg). This hotel is just off the main highway and very easy to find. It's a good 30 minutes or so walk into town (Garmish) - in the evening at the end of April it was fairly deserted but some restaurants were open. To get to town, best go out the rear car park exit and turn left and left again by a cute little church. A couple of minutes after leaving the rear exit there is a lovely little cake shop that does a good breakfast (our booking form said the one in hotel was €18!) and the buildings in this street are beautifully decorated with murals. I thoroughly recommend the Mercure and the room rate seemed excellent value for money. It was the only hotel (or our 7) for which we were charged in advance in Sterling.
Stayed there in July 2015. Amazing experience. Excellent location, very quite, very romantic, close to Newschwanstein, Linderhof, etc. Great location for driving around rural Bavaria. Great location for hiking too. We loved the hotel and the staff. The restaurant was very good, too.
Sorry we didn't plan to stay longer.
The hotel is beautiful and very well kept. It was very hot when we were there and the staff provided a fan no AC like advertised. The chef destroyed our meal with undercooked items, but the breakfast was fantastic.

Great hotel we love staying here every time we visit Garmisch, but if it happens to be a warm evening and you must open the window for air, THE DISCO/CASINO ACROSS THE STREET IS LOUD AND DOESNT CLOSE UNTIL 4AM!!!. 3 nights of this in a quiet, peaceful town may make us decide to stay somewhere else next time. And it all depends on if you need a window open for air.
