The place is like being in a time warp of thirty years ago and I think that was the last time they did any maintenance as well. We arrived late because we were at Bathurst and there was note on door at reception for our room which was good, but needed car lights on to see it as there was NO lights on anywhere as if they had closed down years ago. It said in welcome book pool was shut down and getting fixed up but I think that was printed in there about two years ago as water was black. Also only room in the world with no hairdryer and bible in top drawer. Room was for five people but only three cups ? So someone's going to go thirsty . Alarm clock built in to cabinet had most buttons missing so no adjusting off time or radio, no big deal as it was only out about five hours and flashing.
If you want a quiet and secluded couples escape then secret valley escape is perfect. The room was cosy and well appointed, and settling down in front of the log fire was an ideal break in our busy holiday.
One thing to note is that, while billed as self catering, the room didn't contain an oven, although there was a hob, microwave, barbeque and lots of utensils and equiptment so as long as you are aware of it this isn't a problem. The manager was extremely helpful and friendly and when we mentioned that we had brought something that needed an oven she kindly let us use hers.
There is nothing quite like waking up in your own cabin in the mountains, seeing wild kangaroos out of the back window, then spending an hour in the hot tub on the veranda before being greeted by a pair of alpacas when you leave!
"Special Mountains guesthouse in the Blue Mountains"
We used to visit Parklands over the years, usually with our 2 daughters in tow but occasionally as a couples get away. We wanted to visit the Blue Mountains as we had an overseas guest, and a function in Katoomba the following day. Parklands was always good but since the latest refurbishment and addition of a restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays as well as every day for breakfast, it is a real joy. The Restaurant is very good and the chef uses fresh vegetables from their own garden on site. It is set in its own exquisite grounds as well as being minutes away from Govetts Leap lookout in Blackheath. It also has Spa treatments but I didn't use them on this visit.
Hotel was excellent in a great position a little away from the town centre so nice and quiet but only two minutes drive to town centre, close enough to Katoomba and Scenic world and closer to Jenolan Caves than Katoomba. Hotel was very clean even if decor is quite dated the size of the rooms (stayed in two bedroom apartment) made the stay with my two kids very comfortable. The girl working at the check in desk seemed like i was interrupting her and she had bad day when i checked in which wasnt very welcoming. The Games room and the heated pool was awesome for the family. TV could have been a little bigger for such a large room however loved staying at the Redleaf and would definately go back every time. Jenolan Caves was awesome and cant wait to go back.
After staying in hotels for 50% of my life, I rate this hotel as the grearest experience of any hotel in the world. The drive from Sydney can be punctuated with stops at wonderful villages in the Blue Mountains. That drive culminates in the beauty of the Wolgan Valley.
The suites can only be descibed as superb. The food is well prepared and professionally served and the activities are interesting and varied.
I am now planning my next visit.

Very courteous and helpful staff, I had to cancel my 2nd night's stay for family reasons and they were very understanding and did not charge me a cancellation fee. Great and reasonably priced dining room breakfast and a courtesy call after I returned home offering to mail me a shirt and tie that I had accidently left in the room.
Thoroughly recommend it as a great reasonably place to stay.
