"Top class hotel short distance from city centre"
Great night's stay at York Marriott, enjoyed relaxing in pool area. Room was very comfortable and clean but it was down one floor from reception which was a lot of stairs with luggage. Reception directed us to lift but we never found it, maybe it was other end of very long corridor.

"Nice Hotel close to university and city centre"
Excellent service from staff when we arrived the hotel had 2 wedding parties arriving with staff directing people to each party to avoid interrupting checking in. Staff offered a quiet room away from both parties to ensure we were not disturbed by any noise. Room was excellent and very quiet with a lovely view over a quiet courtyard. Breakfast was lovely and nothing too much trouble for the staff.

Pocket Guide: York, North Yorkshire Romantic Hotels

Once enclosed by ancient fortified walls, York offers a wealth of cultural and historical sites, including York Castle, the National Railway Museum, and York Minster, a Gothic cathedral in the city center. The Shambles is a pedestrian-friendly street dating back to mediaeval ages, where it housed butcher shops. Today the scene is less gruesome, with quaint boutiques and tea rooms lining the road.
