"Really nice B & B"
Really a nice place, small but really well done. My room was spacious, full bath separate, lots of extras in room, an actual electric teapot and lovely selection of teas and snacks plus wine glasses. Great breakfast in a nice dining room with a view, and the owners/staff are extremely friendly. Really loved staying here and would absolutely recommend.

"Deserves every one of those 5 Stars."
Kexby House proved to be an excellent place to stay for exploring York and the surrounding area. Situated just 20 mins drive outside York on the Hull road, this proved to be a rather charming choice of accommodation. We stayed for the weekend and due to leaving it to the last minute to book, found accommodation in York both limited and expensive. Kexby House was a fantastic find and offered phenomenal value when compared to the sterile and faceless generic chain hotels charging at least £100 more. The classicaly styled interior gave it a surprisingly opulent feeling and the 'Pink Room' in which we stayed was perfect, with some sherry and freshly baked Parkin bread awaiting us inside. Frederick, the owner was extremely welcoming, helpful and attentive throughout our stay. A true Yorkshire gentleman with his own unique brand of humour. The Breakfast was first class and the freshly made sausages were fantastic along with the freshly laid eggs, all produced on site. We had travelled by train so did not have a car but found the transport links were excellent, with a bus stop outside offering a regular service into York (X46), or a £17-20 taxi journey. An excellent stay which was well worth the money.

"Great week end break in historic York"
Half an hours walk from the town centre so ideal location for a walk into York centre, the meal in the hotel was very good so no need to leave the hotel if your tired from shopping. BTW the outlet centre is only a mile or so in the opposite direction so prepare your wallet for a bit of a hard time but great location.

"Great location. Faded grandeur?"
Great welcome, and our second visit to this hotel - so we are very pleased with it. If I had to give a critical view - perhaps a little makeover in some small areas? But we will return in the future. Lovely lounge.

Pocket Guide: York, North Yorkshire Boutique Hotels

Once enclosed by ancient fortified walls, York offers a wealth of cultural and historical sites, including York Castle, the National Railway Museum, and York Minster, a Gothic cathedral in the city center. The Shambles is a pedestrian-friendly street dating back to mediaeval ages, where it housed butcher shops. Today the scene is less gruesome, with quaint boutiques and tea rooms lining the road.
