we stayed here for one night in a family room. Lovely room and two large beds, lots of facilities including tea and biscuits. Parking available for just over £10 per night- able to leave on the carpark for our whole stay and city centre within a 2-3 minute walk. will definatley stay here again!
Who knew that fall in York would be so popular? The hotel is centrally located and if you know that it is by the museum and tower you will always find a sign post to point the way home! The current manager knows his stuff, he was excellent and his staff was kind, patient and curious. The hotel is more in keeping with a Hilton in the USA.
Hotel is situated about 15 minute walk from city centre. Enjoyed a riverside stroll into the city which was picturesque. Also very close to the Barbican which hadn't realised when booking which was a bonus as we were at a concert there.
Fantastic stay - only there for one night but wish it could have been longer. Wonderful welcome and helpful check in process, including escort to room and mini tour of the hotel and history. Room was recently refurbished to a high standard and whilst quite small was perfect for our needs.
We didn't have an issue with this but if you're planning a stay, the car park is quite small and I would recommend booking parking at the same time as the hotel stay.
Overall a beautiful hotel in a great setting, convenient for exploring York City Centre and the surrounding area.
Stayed for 2 nights and was not disappointed!!! The pub is lovely, and serves really great food, notably the pies which were delicious! The room was a really lovely size and very comfortable! The bathroom was nicely decorated and very clean also. There was plenty of tea, coffee and sugar in the rooms with more in the hallway if needed, which I thought was very nice. The breakfast was wonderful as well. The staff were all very very friendly, helpful and accommodating, and never made you feel like anything was too much hassle! The only very very slight downside was that the road outside was a little noisy, but that is not the pub's fault obviously... don't let it put you off though, this place is really wonderful! It's also a very lovely 15 minute walk into the City centre from the hotel. You should definitely stay here!
Took my 5-year-old son to meet up with a good friend visiting York from overseas, so booked two rooms. Extremely clean and well maintained rooms and halls. Old-fashioned and basic without the old-fashioned inconvenience. Shower rooms seemed new, or at least extremely well maintained. Beds very comfortable and great fluffy clean duvets and sheets. My friend, who used to run pub B&Bs in the 1980s-1990, was very favourably impressed.
The staff were helpful and were friendly to my son. And on-site restaurant had good-quality Italian food -- another pleasant surprise.
Our host, Graham made regular contact with us via email once we had booked. He allowed us to book in early on our first day which gave us a few more hours to explore York. Our room was room 1 which is en suite. The décor was very clean and tasteful (thanks to Dunhelm mill). The shower was very clean with more than enough room for two !! The towels were fluffy and there was plenty of storage space for toiletries. There was plenty of tea/coffee and we even had biscuits. Graham gave us a map and directions into the city centre which was about a ten minute walk, along the riverside. Breakfast was nicely presented and a decent size. Fruit juice and cereal were also available. We were given a permit to park right outside the guesthouse for the length of our stay. I couldn't have asked for more and would highly recommend this guesthouse if you are visiting York. There is a Sainsbury's 5 minutes walk along the road. We will definitely stay here again and look forward to the next time. Great hosts, a good nights sleep and a lovely breakfast. Thank You Graham.
