“Nat. Holiday, Xian”

Hotel was what one would expect from Shangri La. Breakfast buffet had something for everyone, very good. Only negatives were: airport service through hotel was steep(400RMB) and the carpets and cabinetry were a bit dated. Staff very friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

Area recommendations

Hotel had health club with heated pool and whirlpool hot tub, kids loved it! All very clean and professionally run.

“Do not take upgrades”

This hotel appeared to have 2 wings. The newer wing had the more modern rooms ( I assume from walking down that hallway). We were offered a free upgrade which moved us up into a larger suite in the older wing of the hotel. Furniture was broken and old. If you must stay here, do not take the upgrade. If you must stay in Xian, take a hotel near to Big Goose Pagoda. That is the newer area of the city.

Area recommendations

Xian is a one day town. Do a day tour from another city. We spent two days there and it was too much. After seeing the Terra Cotta Warriors and Big goose pagoda, there is nothing to do. I suggest taking a day tour to Xian from another Major city(e.g. Shanghai or Beijing).

“Solid service experience”

We did almost miss our early morning flight as they neglected our requested wake up call. They claimed our phone was off the hook, but the couple we were traveling with called our room to find us and the phone rang just fine. Lame excuse.

“Best hotel in Xian”

My wife and I were not sure what to expect after reading all the comments on this board and others. On leaving, we agreed the hotel far exceeded our expectations. We had two of our children with us, 12 yo and 3 yo. It is a perfect hotel for families! The pool was great (bring your own swimming cap, though). We upgraded to the exec level (I believe the offer is made to everyone) and had a room with 2 Queen size beds. Near typical Asian hardness but large enough where we weren't sharing with the kids! The entire hotel staff spoke good to great English and went out of their way to make the stay quite enjoyable. The exec level happy hour (530-830) was terrific and we even just stayed there the 2nd night for our supper. Xi An is a 2 night city - arrive early, spend the day inside the city, terracotta soldiers the 2nd day, leaving early the 3rd morning. I spent 121 nights in hotels, 95% in Asia, last year and can honestly say this hotel is worth the booking. Advice: Book your transport through the hotel - have them pick you up at the airport and wrk a deal out to have a standby driver when you go into town. If you take a chance at the airport (as we did on arrival), you may end up in a non-AC taxi that takes you to all hotels except your own. Cheap but hot! After that, we had the hotel transport and all was fine for just a little more money.

Area recommendations

Xi'an is known for the terracotta warriors, the 8th wonder of the world and must be seen anyone visiting eastern china -- though the ancient capital of China, the terracotta warriors put this city on the map as one for tourist interest. I would suggest taking a flight into Xi'an that arrives by 10AM, arrange to be met by a private guide and van (ours cost 1200 Yuan for 2 full days including airport pickup and dropoffs, to and from all places, dinner, etc), visit the terracotta warriors and the exhibits and museums that encompass that site and then proceed to the hotel. There's the rebuilt city wall where you can rent a bicycle and cycle along the top and other historic areas and museums -- a morning arrival and a late afernoon or evening departure the next day would enable you to see much that there is to see as it is a "two day city".
