“Good location and great stay”

The location is convenient being a group of hotels in the same place + restaurants and lots of facilities. Good value for money.

“so so”

The front desk personnel both at check-in and check-out were not so helpful. As Grand Mercure is part of the Star Alliance group , the front desk staff refused to credit the mileage dismissing it as that if the hotel is booked through Expedia or any tour agency, there will be no entitlement of mileage. I have done various Expedia bookings in the past wherein the mileage is credited. The room is not entirely well cleaned; there were remnants of the past guest's paper wrapper behind the bed-table not removed. There should be a grab handle bar for the long bath for senior citizens like me to hold on to.

“Grand Mercure”

Conveniently located a few KM from the drum tower in a complex reminiscent of the city itself. Staff was wonderful, very helpful. Room was nice. Not to downgrade the hotel, but it is standard for this class of hotel in China, which means pretty darned nice. I'd recommend it.

“Best service I have ever had in China.”

People are well trained. Good English. Pretty good breakfast. Walking distance from the main sights. Good value. Restaurant for dinner is in nearby Sofitel -overpriced but good food.

“friendly, clean, quiet, and nice.”

Everything in the hotel is good. friendly staff members (I really appreciate their help), clean, quiet, safe location. The breakfast is nice. The front desk can call a taxi for you, but it is hard to find one during rush hour, raining days, or hot days. Xi'an's public transportation and road control are quite disappointing specially when the weather is bad. We stayed in Xi'an for four days and saw three car accidents. Those "bike taxies" are not safe.

“Adequate location”

As many of you have indicated, we booked the Grand Mercure and got a free upgrade to the Sofitel, which is a really nice hotel. GOOD: Sofitel is a high quality establishment. Nice restaurants on premises. The Renmin Square encompasses threee or four very nice hotels. Good place to take walks and feel safe from the surrounding neighboorhood. BAD: It was very difficult to first find the Renmin Square or the Grand Mercure. The taxi driver had no idea. We got dropped off about a block away and it was hard to find someone who knew about the place. Finally a police offer gave us directions. I think it might be easier to tell someone that you are going to the Sofitel instead. UGLY: South of the hotel is a pretty bad area. There's a nice shopping center one block east. It was hard to find affordable places to eat nearby. Xi'an is very populated (as most cities in China) and the City Center is overflowing with people. The only reason we went there was to visit the Terra Cotta warriors (well worth it). Good luck!

This hotel was fabulous! When we arrived, they upgraded all three of our rooms to beautiful King Suites. The front desk was extremely helpful and the concierge was AMAZING! He helped me organize and book a car, driver and tour guide through a travel agent and also sent someone to purchase train tickets for us from the station. He went well above and beyond his duties! Excellent and very clean rooms, very comfortable beds and great service! A must-stay if you are traveling to Xi'an! :)
