“Big Rooms in a good location.”
Old kind of Hotel with big rooms, need a good maintance-shower heads, sinks. Only a very few Front Desk staff can speak English(or understand). Close to public Transit. Breakfast is 15Y and Chinese orientd will be gone very early. English B'fast cost more money and takes time.
“No Thank You, Never Again!”
the staffing at the hotel i could not complain about, 10/10. manageress Jilly came to my room 10 minutes after check in to welcome me, and also booked me a private driver to take me to visit the terracotta army, again 10/10! but the room itself was just not acceptable, the walls were covered with years of smokers in the room, windows were very thin and traffic and shouting could be heard non stop, there was used cigarette butts on the floor along with a dead ladybid, wasnt sure if to pull the curtains closed incase something like a spider fell off!
“KA-BANG for your buck”
I have traveled all over the world and I only have two requirements: a comfortable bed and cheap price. This hotel provided more than what I asked for and the people working were very attentive and helpful. Located close to most of the attractions within Xi'An, it's very comfortable and it's away from a lot of the noise so you can get some decent rest.
“Good location”
Centrally located, close to everything. Good enough room.
“Convenient and economical”
It's 7 mins walk from the nearest subway station (Andingmen). Room is VERY simple, but if you just need a place to sleep, it's a good, economical choice. Receptionists spoke English and were helpful.
“A Good Place to Stay in Xi'an”
Hotel is in a good location on a quiet street behind the Hyatt Hotel. They offer wi-fi in the rooms. If you don't have your own computer, there is a large internet cafe on the second floor of a building a few doors down. The English-speaking hospitality manager wrote me a welcome note and made her cellphone number available. The desk staff was responsive and helpful.
“Photoshop At It's Best”
I must preface the following with the fact I have traveled all over the world. My goal is to always blend with the culture. I could care less if the hotel is a 2 or 3 star, it just has to be clean-especially the shower. We were absolutely shocked when we drove up to the hotel. The photos are NOTHING like the reality. Our taxi driver laughed really hard as he dropped us off. The artist's rendering was on a long sign on one side of the hotel. He pointed to it and howled! I will say Jilly was very kind. She showed us two rooms, both horribly filthy, each bathroom was covered in mold. We walked around with our jaw dropped it was such a contrast to their web site. The whole place reeked of stale cigarette smoke. The hallway walls were smeared with dirt. The furniture was falling apart. The photos had to have been photoshopped. We decided to leave and go elsewhere. We did return and take photos of the exterior to show the contrast if anyone is interested.
“Really nice hotel for the price.”
I found my stay at this hotel to be enjoyable. There was good english speaking staff on hand at check in and check out. Very helpful also, also if anything...were a little too keen to help. (I felt the service manager knocking on the door the morning after checking in to see if everything was okay was a little unnecessary, although well intentioned). My single room was clean, fairly modern in appearance, and nicely furnished. I went for a basic room, which didn't have much in the way of heating which wasn't ideal given the cold weather. But that aside, was comfortable enough. It isn't the easiest place to find, as mentioned in other reviews it's just a little off the main road junction, but taxi drivers would know where it is. As for a location in the city itself, it's in a decent area with a main road and lots of shops just a minute walk.
“Great value for the money”
I'll preface these remarks by saying that if you are looking for five star service or a Western type hotel then go to a five star hotel. The Canaan is a Chinese "business" hotel and is rated three stars, however, I personally feel it is worth more than the three star rating. If you want to experience "Chinese", then this is the place, particularly if you are on a budget. A hint that I try and follow is to find an inexpensive hotel and then go for a suite. The Canaan hotel has plenty of suites and the cost is very reasonable and much less than a 5 star hotel. Another hint, the beds in China tend to be a little harder, ask for extra bedding to soften the bed, the staff are very happy to assist you in this way. There is a wonderful restaurant where we had fun ordering, what with our broken Chinese and the staff's broken English... but the staff were very patient, and other than the juices, is very reasonably priced. There is plenty to see just around the hotel, plenty of shopping and a good mall where you can get good bargains. Also ask the hotel staff for an associated taxi, hire the taxi for the day for a surprisingly low cost and go see the terracotta warriors, the bell tower and the city wall. Personally, we had a wonderful stay!
“It's OK”
It's okay for a 3 star hotel. Some of the staff is pleasant, others are kinda hostile. My room wasn't ready when I checked in, but in fairness, they did everything they can to redeem the situation and more than make up for it. Front staff can speak english but others don't have a good command of the language. Overall satisfaction, I say not bad for a local hotel.
