We hit a hick-up on our arrival - they tried to move us to White Sands/Riviera sections, but we resisted and after a short struggle got a room in Kantenah - where beach is so much nicer with plenty of shady coconut palms and other trees. Diego at front desk was kind enough to swap our room the next day to a top floor room that we requested in an e-mail couple of weeks prior.
Rooms are comfortable except big, deep armchairs, hard pillows and rubbery uderpads on beds. Everything worked fine in the room. Also second room had a better mattress or foam topper.
Buffets are ok for breakfast/lunch but for dinner we recommend a'la cartes. Grounds and common areas are big, well kept and lit at night - be prepared to walk. Pools are expansive and pretty, but also noisy except for two smaller "quiet" pools. There is a nice lively coral reef patch just across buoys line - when water is not too disturbed by chop. We went to Akumal Bay twice to snorkel there and to Yal-Ku lagoon. Altogether it was nice and pleasant trip, weather was almost perfect - relaxing and trouble free.
Most restaurants were great. Rodizio was not very good, meat was cheaper cuts of meat. Hotel is very large so lots of walking but worth it. Rooms were clean and well air conditioned. I have stayed at other places along the Riviera Maya and Grand Palladium Colonial was one I might stay at again. I would recommend the Colonial or White Sands because they are in the middle of the resort so closer to everything. The Salt Water pool was nice for my teenagers to practice snorkeling but only used for an hour the whole trip. We ended up snorkeling along the beach instead. I loved that vendors were all over the resort for shopping. The beach was nice and we could snorkel in it seeing lots of fish. Drinks were great and staff was amazing.

Really enjoyed our stay at this resort. Very expansive grounds with lots of walking required, (you can take the tram, but the tram frequency varies between lobbies/villas, and it can be quite a wait at times) the walkways and boardwalks are well maintained and make for pleasant strolls. The beach is long with lots of lounge chairs, and although there is a rocky entry to the water, the swimming is great, and you can snorkel right off of the beach along some good coral structure. The food was good, but the highlight was the unlimited a la carte access, with reservations required at only two of the many restaurants. The most we waited to get in to one of the restaurants was 1 hour, but they gave us a beeper and we went to the lobby bar for drinks until the beeper went off. Some shopping available within resort, gift shops and the like. They have a nightly market at each lobby with local artisans and the usual kitschy souvenir fare. The resort is working hard to be environmentally conscious, and they take their turtle protection seriously, which is great. Exchanging money at the front desk is pretty hit or miss, so if you are a tipper, take lots of small bills with you, though sometimes the bartenders with break larger bills for you if you ask nicely.
