“Nothing wrong with Sydney Blue”
Nothing wrong with the Hotel and plenty of places to dine within an easy walk. Very pleasant location but did mean you had to get a taxi to most areas so depends on what you are looking for. Staff where very indifferent ... but quality was good even though rooms were really small.
“Very good hotel in unique location”
Stunning building, great non-CBD location with 10+ top restaurants. Have stayed here many times and love the atmosphere.
“Water views”
A 2 night stay at the Blue was very enjoyable with many fine restaurants at wharf level overlooking the harbour waters. We did not eat at the hotel as there were so many other restaurants available and coming back to the hotel on Saturday night there was a very noticeable 'thump' musical beat from the bar downstairs but this could not be heard in our room. The hotel was far enough away from Sydney streets not to be noisy and there were lovely views of the city skyline from our window. The only reservation we have was the grossly overpriced mini-bar, although a complimentary late check-out was a bonus and much appreciated.
“worth it but..”
Great hotel and location. Easy to get to CBD etc even if bus info. not readily available. Tourist info. in rooms lacking. Do not have a room in main section on Fri, Sat, and Sun or you'll cop the band going til 12.00am. We managed to get roomchange and heard nothing afte first night. Incredibly we were told they were aware of the issue and !!!! Still we enjoyed the experience. Expedia put together a great package.
“Good hotel............but beware!!”
This is a good hotel.........different........but good. Although the room levels resemble a prison, the room we were in was very spacious and comfortable. We had a loft suite on two levels. The bottom level, the lounge area, was excellent. The upper level although very comfortable was extremely noisy at night from traffic noise as the roof vents had no protection from outside noise. Sleeping was very difficult bordering on impossible. The staff seemed very surprised when I mentioned this. Don't they ever visit rooms to see if there any issues with noise? As has been reported by other guests there are plenty of restaurants attached to the hotel, all on the pricey side, whereas there is a perfectly adequate Italian restaurant opposite the hotel with a more affordable menu not only for dinner but breakfast also. For tourists it's worthy of note that the hop on-hop off bus stops outside the hotel. Another thing to watch out for is the exorbitant charge for telephone calls, other than local landline calls. I called a Sydney mobile for about 10 minutes and was charged 35 dollars. I know that a lot of hotels overcharge for phone calls but this is a rip off!!
“Great place on the water in Sydney”
Only drawback is do not book a room witth a tub . I am tall and I had a hard time gettign in and out of the super high tub with no handles which is also the shower. They need to change that! I cut and brusied my leg badly.
“Comfort and style just outside the CBD”
Blue has been established inside a historic wharf building about 1 km from the Sydney CBD. It has a vast atrium where the main cargo work was done, with rooms fitted in along the sides where there were once offices and facilities. This has been done to the highest standard. The hotel has a breakfast cafe and room service only. For other meals there are 5 restaurants within the same building; a cheap Italian over the road, and an excellent gastro pub (Tilbury) Tuesday to Saturday. There are several routes to the CBD, the 311 bus goes past, and there are almost always numerous taxis outside. All walking routes involve a climb, but in Bourke St there is a lift and overbridge which takes you over the freeway and tollway to the Art Gallery - a pleasant stroll on a fine day.Walking any further South brings you into a rather seedy area with numerous homeless although we walked through day and night with no problems at all. Most rooms have great views, either out to the naval ships which share the bay, or across to the park and gardens on the other side. Hotel service was always excellent and professional, security is good, and facilities such as the pool also excellent. The entry layout (you do not pass through the foyer except to reception) and the absence of other common space gives a somewhat impersonal effect. While certainly a five star and highly recommended, this offers less than other Leading Hotels we have stayed at. Good value at the discounted Expedia price.
“Nice, but too trendy and expensive”
No real complaints about the quality of the BLUE, but it is over-priced and puts too much emphasis on style over substance. Certainly it's an impressive makeover of an interesting old building (previously a dockside warehouse) and is nicely fitted out, but you get the impression you're paying over the odds for the privilege of being trendy. Some irritating examples include the Waterbar, which is lit so darkly that it's impossible to read the drinks menu and has electro-pop music pounding constantly day and night. It's more like a night club than a place to have a relaxing evening drink. Pluses are the luxurious bedrooms and the friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast is very good, but again, very expensive; internet access is also ludicrously expensive . I found the location ideal, as it's only 15 minutes easy walk to Circular Quay or the Kings Cross neighbourhood and there are some bars/restaurants nearby.
“Lovely location on a pier”
Liked the room very much even though it is somewhat small. It was easy to get to city by walking 10 minutes. Walking through the botantical gardens is very pleasant and you can end up at the opera house within 20 minutes. Not that close to any subways or trains for access to other areas especially if you are carrying a bag. If you want to the airport the fare is around $40 as driver charges more than the meter says. They were very good about keeping a bag until we returned to the city. The restaurants on the quay are very good but also very expensive. As it appears this is a favorite location for locals and travellers book ahead. There are a couple of restaurants across the street which are cheaper for breakfast. Would return.
“Great hotel in a beautiful part of Sydney”
This is a great hotel sitting in a beautiful spot in Sydney. The loft rooms are very large and comfortable and the service was outstanding from check in to check out. It is only about a 10-15 minute walk to the city and 10 minutes into King Cross (and the train station there) but I mainly used taxis to get around while staying here. The wharf is great, with some very good (though not cheap) restaurants on it and the Water Bar in the hotel is worth checking out for a few cocktails. The view from the loft I had wasn’t that great but that was the only minor negative in an otherwise outstanding experience.
