“Decent value for a holiday weekend.”

We stayed because of the location and the rate - a whirlpool room. It was actually pretty decent - clean and just what we needed-except no coffee pot. Generally, the hotel seemed pretty tired and dated, but it was functional. Too bad the hotel's exterior is unkempt and the hallways noisey. Kid Central - FYI.

Dining
Sprecher's new Microbrewery & Restaurant is now open - across from Carousel or just down from Noah's Ark. I have to write a positive comment for them, as I had noted someone who was misinformed about them in recent weeks -- THEY JUST OPENED IN AUG., 2011. They are NOT affiliated with that awful Copa Cabana hotel. The food and beer - of course - were exceptional. Please don't bring large groups of kids, though.

“Think Twice”

Upon checking into our room, we were immediately greeted with an intense odor. We didn't even let our 2 year old walk into the room, and went to the front desk to request a different one. They said the room had been 'locked up' over the colder months and that the smell was just the result of not enough air circulating through. After a colorful debate on this, they finally gave us another room. It still wasn't great, but better. Our main disappointment was the kid-friendly pool area. It was cute and our baby was excited to play. The problem was the bottom of the pool/slide was like sandpaper, it actually hurt to walk, sit, or slide into the pool. The main reason we picked the hotel was for the animals and carousel horses around the pool, but we couldn't even take advantage of it. Our daughter ended up with a rash on the bottom of her feet and bottom from sitting and standing on the rough surface. The location is great. The price was decent. But if you're looking for a family experience that makes good on it's promises, I'd look elsewhere.

“You get what you pay for with a little extra!”

The hotel was close to most of the water parks. We really enjoy the Mt. Olympus water park thanks to the Carousel Hotel. We would return again.

“Will not return”

This hotel lacks common ammenties normally expected: no Internet access, it said satellite tv - only 5 channels, no hair blower, no complimentary shampoo, no coffee maker. The room was very humid and uncomfortable, pillows were flat and mattress was hard, linens were very low quality.

Area recommendations
Though they are probably higher in cost, if you are looking for comfort, the hotels near the highway seem nicer. This was within walking distance of several attractions.

“Wouldn't Go Back”

The rooms are slightly outdated, there was enough moisture in the air that some books I had in the room were wrinkled, the wallpaper was peeling, there was a hair in the bed, jacuzzi tub, and shower, the sheets smelled a bit off, and the sheets didn't even fit the king size bed, so they kept popping off. The parking was no good either. We had to park all the way on the other side of the building. I bring my own blankets with me when I travel, and I would not have been happy with the bedding if I hadn't. I would definately not reccomend this hotel. The setup of the hotel is odd too, the office is in the front, then there are 3 separate buildings with rooms. The layout is a tad creepy to me. The two back buildings look like old wherehouses. If you get a deal on the cost of the hotel it might be worth it to you, but it really depends on just how important the actual room is to you and how much time you'll be spending in it. They also have a very strick no smoking policy, so that is also a thought if you happen to smoke.

Area recommendations
Most of the hotels in the Wisconsin Dells area are located in a nice part of town. I've been to the area many times and have never had a problem with hotel location, but some of the hotels are better than others. But the city is clean cut, and there doesn't seem to be a bad part of town.
Must see
I've been to the Dells many times, and I never tire of seeing The Tommy Bartlett Show, or going to the Exploratory. The Rick Wilcox Magic show is a more expensive option, but if you can afford to go, it is an amazing show. If you go just out of town to Baraboo, the Circus World Museum can give you a lot for your money, there are a lot of historical items, as well as live shows at different times of the day. One of the hidden treasures is the drive in theater, which is located just out of town, but it is a very fun thing to do. Also, Ripley's Believe It Or Not is a nice place to go if you enjoy oddities and/or just a museum type entertainment. Another one of my favorite things to do is miniature golf, especially Pirate's Cove or Timber Falls. There are many fun things to do in the Dells!
Dining
There are a lot of fast food restaraunts if you are looking for a cost effective meal, but if you are looking to splurge, I'd recommend eating out at Mexicali Rose. They have the best Mexican food, indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the wisconsin river, and for dessert, you'll love their Fried Ice Cream. I also enjoy Pizza Villa, it's a tinier restaraunt located on a road just off the main strip, but they have good pizza.
