We used to go to Louis Riel on a regular basis about 20yrs ago, but stopped because the hotel started to have a rundown feel to it. I heard that they had done extensive renovations and through Expedia I was looking for a room for 3 adults and an affordable price range. I thought I would give it a try since they were the only hotel that came close to offering what I required.
It was a complete lovely surprise when I entered the room! It was spacious, tastefully decorated, and such comfort. The sofa bed (which was a requirement of mine) was THE best sofa bed I ever slept on!! it was like a bed itself. The coffee/tea/water is COMPLIMENTARY, which is also something of a rarity these days. The service was quick and met with a smile.
The cost for parking is $11/day but it's an inside parkade, and there's a small outside parking area for bigger vehicles. I have a small SUV (chevy Trax) and my roof rack was slightly hitting the dangling parking sign, so not much clearance for higher vehicles.
Another beautiful thing, the skywalks keeps outdoor walking to a minimum, nice when it's a blizzard outside with -20C temps, and/or nighttime walking. I felt very safe with the ample visible Security that's present.
All in all, I would recommend this place to anyone, and I would definitely come back again for another stay.
The sound bearer of the walls/door are terrible. You could hear every word of the passing by traffic, their closing of their doors after entering their rooms. When someone was in the adjacent room's washroom you could hear the water running, toilet flushing, shower/bath being run, very disturbing since your bed is right next to the bathroom wall.
There was a meeting going on in a room four doors down and they had an open door meeting and we had to listen to all the goings on from this meeting from the time it started at 8:00 a.m.
The outside traffic is also something you have to listen to all night long, sirens, truck back up signals, etc.
The only other comment I would like to make is the drive up in front of the hotel is way to small, two vehicles in the pull through and it was full and awkward to drive in.
I was heading home after a week long vacation and was hoping for a better stay than the one i had at a hotel heading out. It had been a long day. After a very nice dinner in the restaurant (with great service) i then went into the lounge for some more great service. The room itself was very comfortable.

Was very happy to walk to the Forks Market and the MTS Centre even in November. Loved the proximity to Prairie 360 restaurant. The staff here was very helpful. We enjoyed the history of the hotel and the entire area!

"A Friendly Welcoming Place to Stay Along the River"
We are not normally bed and breakfast people so this was a different experience for us. We were welcomed as if we were friends and made to feel totally at home. A large family home that has been turned into a bed and breakfast. The room was clean and we had our own bath room. A nice sitting room right off our room was lovely in the morning and evening to read in. Unfortunately when we were there the weather didn't cooperate so we could have breakfast in their sun porch, but the dining area was lovely. The table was set beautifully (entirely different for each morning) it was just like out of a magazine! Both breakfasts they served were very special too and beautifully served. ( I should have asked for the recipes!) the home was surrounded by a beautiful garden with flowers and cozy places to sit and read etc. our only complaint was that it would have been nice to have a queen size bed but it is OK to be cozy for a couple of nights!
