We stayed midweek - Monday night through to Friday morning. The staff were excellent - friendly and helpful and the food was first class, with sensible choices of wines with each course. The room was very comfortable and the wifi worked well throughout the hotel (no O2 signal though, so mobile phone calls were not possible, thankfully). The location is well placed for exploring the area - we shall definitely go back there when we are next in the Lake District.

met up with close friend, we do this once a year, this was by far the best hotel we have had so far, comfortable and we chatted after our meal, in a comfortable setting. loved the walk the next morning to the tarn. what we both needed after a hard, year. will take hubby here, hed love it. thanks it was special
We had a really lovely stay here. Room was comfortable and very clean, breakfast was lovely and location perfect. Owners were very friendly and helpful, gave us lots of tips for places to visit and eat. Would highly recommend a stay here if visiting Bowness.
A lovely modern b&b. A very walk welcome from the owner on arrival. The house is warmly decorated to a modern taste in neutral colours. I particularly loved the shower in the en-suite as it was a power shower. Breakfast was excellent with several choices available. I would stop again when we go back to Windermere.
We first stayed here in 1989 and stayed numerous times in the 1990's, in 2001, 2002 and the last time in 2004. It had lost it's edge a little for us in the transition from a privately run and owned hotel to part of a chain (Von Essen). Recent developments, a new owner, and good reviews tempted us back and we were not disappointed! It isn't the same as in the days of Francis and Brian - it never could be - but it is still a unique experience. The position on Ullswater couldn't be better (I'd go for the views alone!), the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional without following fashion. Sharrow Bay always did things it's own way and that was what made it special. The décor and furnishings suit the house and location superbly and I'm pleased to see the Hotel still dares to be different in that respect. We won't leave it as long before our next visit. It is still Simply the Best!

Walking distance to the village. Very quiet location. Breakfast was exceptionally nice. The hosts were very warm and welcoming. Recommend the ferry to Conostin Water and the walk around the Tarn Hows followed by a trip to Ambleside. The Albert Hotel in the village was a great place to eat.
A fantastic place run by a lovely welcoming couple. The quiet road was an easy stroll to Bowness or Windermere with good eating places. We would happily recommend the Thornbank to anyone and look forward to another stay.
