“Christmas shopping weekend”
Met my sister in Salisbury for a Christmas shopping weekend and chose the White Hart as it was well reviewed, within easy reach of the shops and had its own car park which was convenient. First impressions were that the back of the hotel comprised a flat roofed 60's style block in need of re-painting. Reception was well sign-posted though the carpets were marked and dirty on the ground floor though cleaner elsewhere. Our room was on the first floor - no lift and a long way from the stairs. The room was clean, warm and quiet, over-looking the car park at the rear of the hotel. Despite Christmas parties each night, we were unaware of any noise. There were sufficient towels and complimentary toiletries were available. The shower over the bath worked well. Tea and coffee making facilities were available, though we could have done with more tea bags and more milk. Extra milk was provided on request. The twin beds were comfortable and an extra blanket was available if needed though we were both warm enough. The receptionists were helpful when we asked directions to local shops. There was a welcoming log fire in the lounge. We decided to have breakfast elsewhere each day as we only wanted a light snack, and would not have justified the fee for the full breakfast. We would come back again as the White Hart was convenient for the shops and provided a comfortable budget break.
“Could not understand lower ratings on web. Very impressed”
Could not understand low ratings given by some reviewers. Maybe old reviews?
“Great hotel in the heart of Salisbury”
For quite a large hotel they managed to get the balance just right in terms of personal service and professionalism. The room was not enormous but had everything you could need, especially a very large comfy bed in which we had a great night's sleep as it was very quiet. All the staff were great. They lock the front door at 11:00 pm to provide extra security (it is centrally located) and the night porter ensures that the room key you ask for is actually for your room, which made me feel very safe and secure. The breakfast was good - smoked salmon on the buffet as well as a good range of contintental and cooked items and they also offered additional cooked items such as eggs benedict or smoked haddock. Overall great value in an historical building that has been well maintained and decorated.
“perfect”
Perfect.. great sized rooms, beds, reasonabley priced. Wonderful staff very helpful. Out of the 6 hotels we stayed in on our journey this was the best.
“Undortunately we were left with a smoking room”
It looks liek the hotel has had a total overhaul, except the 3/4 smoking rooms (we specifically asked for a non smoking room as I have chest problems) 1 of which we had. Also our shower didnt work which wasnt great. We went to reception but as they were fully booked we couldnt be moved and no compensation was offered.
“Nice quaint place”
Definitely a rest from the large, plastic hotel. A small, well-kept, charming place. A great spot for exploring greater Wiltshire. The cathedral, Stonehenge, The Lamb Inn in Hindon, Staurhead with its unbeleivable gardens. And Exbury's gardens down towards the coast. Very nice internal restaurant. Friendly staff. I would return.
