This hotel is well-placed for access to all routes to North and South Cotswolds, An excellent breakfast buffet, and good value dining rates. First class staff - polite and courteous - who dealt competently with our complaint with Expedia.
First impressions a bit of a surprise. Reception at rear in kitchen. Once got used to it found everything spot on for overnight stay. Large living area for 3 people, couldn't ask for more. Staff very friendly and food very good. All together a good experience. Will definitely use again.
Had the 4 poster room, large clean and fluffy pillows and duvet. Bath towels soft and large. Large bottles shower gel and radox bath soak.
Loved the small packets fruit in the room, even mini fridge with small jug of cold milk a d bottle of water.
I had major catastrophe whilst there and the owners changed their plans to help me. Amazing, helpful people on top of a really good place to stay ..highly recommend
The owners were very welcoming & made us feel at home. This B&B is among the very best we have stayed in, and we wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it to our friends.
The breakfast was scrumptious & the home made jams added that little extra.
Wonderful hotel great character and the lounge was exceptional!!!!
Staff were fantastic and food was lovely. Slight problem that the credit card reader did not work!!!!
Brilliant place to stay including the willies!!!!
This gorgeous manor and its cottages on well-manicured grounds are perfectly suited for a quiet yet pampered getaway to one of the most picturesque regions of the Cotswalds. The village of Castle Combe (right outside the manor's gate) is an easy stroll among well preserved homes and a cathedral dating back to the 13th century. The staff is attentive and the quality at the manor is nothing short of world-class. We stayed in one of the cottages which was well-appointed and included a very large master bathroom. This place takes you back several centuries, and does so in style. Other well-known attractions are not too far away such as Stonehenge, Bath, etc. but there are also plenty of lesser-known destinations throughout Wiltshire for those bent on exploring away from conventional "tourist traps". All in all, we had a great time, even despite the constant rains of November. The fireplaces in the lobby and bar are perfect for warming up and relaxing with a well-prepared drink, or two, at the end of the day. Highly recommend!
If you enjoy experiencing time-warps then Cleeve House, at Seend, on the outskirts of Melksham, Wiltshire, is a must.
An almost gothic pile to the eye, it exudes an old-fashioned ambience that provides a genuinely warm and welcoming glow throughout it's hallowed corridors.
Honestly, at one time (before the 80s were counted out) this characterful type of lodging was scattered liberally throughout this green and pleasant land. It rested, contentedly midst the burgeoning four star noisy hotel chains and the better to be avoided genteel private guest houses that were really no better than expensive B&Bs. But alas, many have succumbed to oppressive health and safety laws and spiraling labour costs.
Unfortunately, and due to, no doubt, the Cleeve's popularity, we were only able to rest our weary bodies for a single night. Though a night of deep and welcome sleep it was, with an enchanting morning's view across a bucolic landscape, and a breakfast fit for a king.
Go, go, go to The Cleeve. You will not be disappointed.
An enjoyable two night stay in this "urban resort" hotel. Facilities are great although some of the carpets in communal areas were starting to look a bit grubby. Reception staff were friendly and helpful and the service was really excellent. We were offered an upgrade to a suite for the first night and then went back to standard for our second night. The previous weekend we'd spent one night in an upper deck room and it's that experience of staying in three grades of room that prompts me to make a comment about the bathrooms. The size of bath in each of the three grades of rooms is identical with a shower over the bathtub. We'd have liked to have the luxury of being able to share a bath or even a shower but in each grade of room space was tight. The higher grade rooms are certainly bigger and have a few touches of luxury but the extra space could have enhanced the rather cramped bathrooms rather than the living areas. The rooms we stayed in were spacious, the beds comfy, the decor smart and the suite room had a lovely balcony. Staff kindly moved our luggage to the standard room for our second night. The restaurant, pub and coffee shop staff all provided a memorably polite and efficient service and all seemed happy to be there. Food was both tasty and well presented. Staff at breakfast and checkout on our final morning were really stretched with a number of large parties but were able to deal effectively with all that was thrown at them. Pity about the bathrooms.
I stayed for one night and the atmosphere in and around the hotel was very relaxing. The staff were also friendly and very helpful - for example I ordered food but had to go out for an hour and the front desk were more than willing to accept the order on my behalf and hold it until my return. This made my evening of work less stressful and I appreciate the extra effort. I will be working in the area a few more time in the next 6 months and will definitely book again.
