“Old fashioned hospitality”

Very friendly, "old fashioned" hospitality. Guests are made to feel "part of the family". The room was comfortable, very clean and well equipped with micro-wave, fridge, wi-fi and a very comfortable bed. Complimentary breakfast was also included. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel run by an enthusiastic manager/owner. Congratulations to Al and Alicia on an exceptionally well run establishment where nothing was too much trouble for thier guests. Certainly worth a second visit. We will be back!

“Comfortable motel a little off the beaten bath, friendly owners, excellent value”

I stayed at this motel one night in late spring, shortly before peak season. It was a cold, rainy evening, but the motel was inviting and warm-looking, decorated with a festive string of lights. Friendly greeting at the front desk from one of the owners and several cats. There's a little shop in the place, plus a breakfast room, all very homey looking. I was shown to my room and given a complimentary glass of wine. They suggested a few places to go to dinner in Wilmington, and gave me a 10% off coupon for one of them. I chose to go into Lake Placid, instead, which was surprising sleepy that evening. There's a little shop in the place, plus a breakfast room, all very homey looking, and the breakfast offerings were good. I would definitely return

Area recommendations
Definitely go to Whiteface Mountain, which is very close by.

“Comfortable, cozy, and pleasant hosts”

We enjoyed our stay here. It is a cozy place with personal service. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The hosts were wonderful. The pool area needs some major improvements though. Looks a bit dumpy in that area.

“Personal attention: Comfy beds”

Not the Hilton, but a cozy, friendly lodge setting. The owners invite guests to sit at a campfire in the evening, provide a nice breakfast, and treat guests like family. We stayed a week and brought baby granddaughter from her house to play in the yard, and everyone loved it. Lodge is close to Whiteface Mt, The Candyman chocolate factory, and many local eateries. 12 miles from Lake Placid, and close to Ausable Forks and other tourist attractions. We'll definitely stay there again when we return to visit family in the area. The owners are a hoot! Really nice.

Dining
Try Liquids and Solids at the Handlebar in Lake Placid. It's a new "edgy" restaurant, providing large and small plates of fresh, kind of new-age-y cuisine. A really fun offering of dishes you may not be used to, but will be delighted with. (If you're sensitive to spicy foods, be sure to ask about the dish you're ordering.) The salads and desserts are really, really good. Also a good choice of wines and beer and hard liquor. Very nice staff. Food not terribly expensive. A delicious alternative to other area cuisine. Try it.

“Mountain Lodge off the beaten path”

I really enjoyed the lodge. It is not for those who want privacy and seclusion, as the innkeepers are very involved with their guests. While I enjoyed this and it made it feel more homey, the secluded beware. Overall very nice stay, would definitely go back.

When to go
Spring/Fall, best times for the foliage and activities outdoors. Least crowded as well.

“Down Home Hospitality”

The Innkeepers made our stay spectacular. We felt like we knew them forever. The hospitality was fantastic, offering us a refreshment when we got in from our long drive there, and rearranging their breakfast buffet to accomodate the seminar we were attending. We're looking for more opportunities to visit again. I'm so glad we happened across this warm country spot!

“Great, adorable hotel”

This hotel was very well maintained. The owners took care in decorating every room in the Adirondack style. They were genuinely interested in who their guests are. The answered every question we had about the area, and when they didn't know, they found a way to get you one. Free breakfast was a nice touch. The hotel was super close to White Face Mountain. I would, hands-down, stay here again.

Area recommendations

“Planning to return for a trip in the summer”

Lodge was very clean and very cozy. The owners do a great job of making guest feel very welcome in their home. Very close to Whiteface, so perfect for skiing, but a lot to do in summer as well. Breakfast was excellent.

“Mountain Brook Lodge for a Homestyle Weekend”

Great home like atmosphere and service member friendly envirionment. Owner/operator knows the area and attractions so was a tremendous help for finding places to eat and off the beaten path things to see. Would recommend for family or returning vets!
