I chose to stay at Wallace Court because on a previous occasion, the proprietor (Helen) had waited up quite late at night to welcome my teenaged student daughter who was having an accommodation crisis. At the time we were very grateful for her kind help.
On this trip to Wellington it was my bad luck to arrive in Wellington and come down with a ghastly stomach bug. I was a sick as a dog when I fronted up (early) to the Wallace Court motel, simply wishing to crawl into bed. Helen could not have been nicer. She allowed my daughter to move in and take care of me for a few days at no extra charge and asked how I was feeling at checkout.

These apartments were clean and warm and suitable for our family of 5 with fully self contained facilities, and a reasonable price. It is hard to find good accommodation for a family of 5. Great location close to shops and restaurants. Within walking distance to the harbour, Westpac Stadium, Te Papa and the Cable Car. Would highly recommend this accommodation and would definitely stay there again. Although there is no reception on site, my emails to the office were dealt with and replied to swiftly in a very friendly manner. It was lovely to arrive to the apartment from the airport on our first night and have the room so toasty and warm, as someone had kindly put the heaters on for us!

We stayed here for the first few days of a 4-month visit to New Zealand and were absolutely charmed by this delightful small hotel and its staff. It's on a quiet side street but right downtown close to everything: Cuba Street shops and restaurants, Te Papa Museum, Wellington waterfront, City gallery etc. Rooms are small but well appointed, everything was immaculately clean, and the attached Frederick St café provides delicious breakfasts and superb coffee - even by Wellington's high standards! Hosts provide lots of tourist info and inside scoop to enhance your Wellington experience. 5 gold stars!

Ohtel is charming and comfortable. Check-in was welcoming and quite unusual - no high desk with a person peering into a computer behind it. Instead, there was a friendly lady with a simple form behind a low table. Without a computer, check-in was very quick!
I was upgraded to a bigger room (always a good start). The room was furnished in my favourite mid-century modern style. Very comfortable, cool style, immaculate, a spacious, pleasant space to be in. The bathroom was big, airy, practical (plenty of ledge space), and the bath was sensational.
I had to leave very early - too early for breakfast, unfortunately - but my requested wake-up call and taxi both happened seamlessly.
I had only one night in Wellington this time, but when I come back I'll return to Ohtel because it's superbly located for cultural tourism.
