No phones, entrance ramp, or reception after 6 p.m. If you dont mind leaving these creature comforts at the door, its great dollar value: immaculate rooms and plenty of heat and hot water, although a tad off the beaten track. The u6 is out of the way from all other ubahn lines,and the hauptbanhof is a good 10 minute walk.
As other reviews state, the rooms were small but clean & had all that we needed. The staff were brilliantly helpful (Christoph especially). We would definitely stay there again. Balzac coffee shop is just round the corner if you don't want the hotel breakfast.
This hotel is in the heart of the city - just a 5 minute walk from Friedrickstrasse and 10 minutes at most from Unter den Linden. The hotel is very easy to get to from the airport (Tegel) taking the 128 bus and then the U6 to the Naturkundemuseum (staff sell tickets at the airport bus stops so you don't even have to figure out the ticket machines!). This takes less that 30 minutes and really isn't worth taking a taxi for given that the ticket for 2 Euros 80 covers both bus and train. The hotel is about 3 minutes on foot from the U Bahn. We were greeted warmly and taken straight to our room which is very spacious, comfortable and well decorated. The bathroom is exceptionally modern and recently refurbished - and once again spacious. The room is quiet. Breakfast is served until 11am at weekends and provides a wealth of choice from the famous smoked salmon and blinis to hams and cheeses, sweet patries and hot selection. The buffet is kept well stocked throughout the morning service and cannot be faulted. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There are plenty of restaurants and snack bars in the vicinity and the neighbourhood is safe and pleasant for an evening stroll. This hotel is a gem and should not be missed. I will be booking again for our next trip.
Good hotel, very nice pleasant rooms, new decor and the bathrooms are to a very high standard. I would just note that with no aircon in the rooms, the windows are security approved and hence after opening they close themselves after a while, which makes the night very stuffy with no ventilation.
the hotel is a super nice place the owner is putting money in the hotel and is improving it all the time, This is not a luxury hotel, basic and simple, the breakfast is very well done and is very good, house cleaning ladies are nice and do an awesome job at keeping the place clean... the front desk people were very nice , and very knowlegable about there job.. Over all a super nice and very affordable place to stay...
Rooms are large and comfortable, with a balcony, complete kitchen, comfortable beds and large bathroom. Smallest studio is about 30 sq meters (310 sq. ft.)
Staff are all wonderfully friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is complete and good value.
Only problem: we were in Berlin for the hottest week of the year (90-95 F) and the hotel has no air-conditioning. Most of the year this would be no problem, but it was for the week we were there. As many Berlin hotels do not have air conditioning, this could be a problem in many places.
Still, I will return to HSH Hotels for future Berlin trips. It has so many good things going for it; I'll hope for cooler weather!
We were very impressed by the friendly efficiency and professionalism of the front desk, bar and restaurant staff. All much better than when we stayed two years ago. In particular we found the duty managers at breakfast time excellent, welcoming us and ensuring that all the waiters and waitresses were looking after the clients. All in all, a well-run hotel.
