Usually when your sat nav directs you down a narrow lane you become very suspicious! In this case the sat nav was correct and the hotel lies tucked away round the corner but literally 25 meters from the beach. The hotel has been updated very sympathetically form its former Victorian glory. The decor and furnishings were tasteful and pleasing to the eye. The receptionist was both polite but informally friendly and helpful. We chose a room without a sea view but with a small balcony; we only stayed one night and with uncertain weather, we didn't want to pay the extra. The room was compact, as was the en suite shower room, but the bed was very comfortable. For the evening meal, no hot food. but he hotel serve cold platters to order. This was no problem as the centre of St Ives Quay was minutes walk away, along the sea front and it had a wide choice of pubs and restaurants. The full Cornish breakfast was amazing, bacon and sausage being organic and locally sourced. Lovely flavours! Even the brown sauce was organic!
In summary, a very well and tastefully appointed hotel with pleasant, friendly and helpful staff
The Coldstreamer is primarily a pub and restaurant, but has a few hotel rooms upstairs. The staff was lovely and very accommodating. The restaurant was pleasant with interesting dishes to choose from. The room was small and clean. The bed was slightly uncomfortable and the pump in the bathroom was very loud and startling, when you ran water, flushed or showered. There is an old church across the street and the church bells were lovely. Unfortunately, if you aren't used to them, they can wake you up all night long. There was also a lot of loud early morning traffic, which made it difficult to sleep. The hotel provides ear plugs and I would recommend using them. Overall, a quaint little pub with decent accommodations.
Me and my partner enjoyed our stay at the Fountain Tavern, we found the staff welcoming and were asked on arrival if we would like to book for dinner in the evening, we had already made alternative plans so I cannot comment on the food.
We found the room comfortable and I especially liked the features such as the window seat and the stained glass in the cupboard which was turned into a wardrobe. The bed was comfortable and the carpet was a high pile and lovely under foot.
My only downpoint was that the bedside tables were quite wobbly and perhaps a lower quality to the rest of the room, however this did not affect our stay.
The Tavern is within walking distance to the centre of Penzance and the harbour.
In the morning we went downstairs with breakfast and were greeted with a choice of cereals and toast, a full Cornish breakfast (full english with extras), and a couple of additional choices. Me and my partner both had the full Cornish which was delicious.
We would definitely stay at the Fountain Tavern again and would recommend it to any of our friends and family.
We stayed one night after a matinee performance at the stunningly located Minack Theatre a few miles away. We were warmly welcomed by the owner who gave us helpful advice on the nearby restaurants which were within easy walking distance. The room was extremely clean and comfortable, well appointed with matching pine furniture and with all the usual amenities. The owner has a rolling programme of refurbishment and had a new hall carpet on order, which should update the look of the house on entry. The breakfast consisted of an ample cold buffet of fruit, juices, yoghurt, bread and pastries with options of meat, cheese and boiled eggs if required.
