“Better than the chains”

Jefferson Street Inn is a break from the chain hotels, if you're looking for that. It's a newer property, well maintained, quiet, with a seemingly competent staff. The on site restaurant serves decent grub and the bar is fairly active. I'll stay here again next time I frequent the wilds of Central Wisconsin.

“Wonderful Stay”

The room was clean and fabulous with the beds plush and cozy. It is in a beautiful area of Wausau and you can walk to many places to shop and eat. We walked to the Grand Theatre for a concert. The whole experience was like stepping back in time with the brick sidewalks and closeness of everything. The restaurant attached was wonderful. I would stay again. The price for what we got was almost insane.

Area recommendations

Beautiful area and it's like stepping back in to time. The sidewalks have brick and lots of small speciality shops with a mom and pop feel. Easy to walk to everything so just park your car in the ramp provided. If you don't like that the mall is within a block. Very nice.

Events and shows

Check out the Grand Theatre for shows. It's a refurnbished and classy theatre which hold 1200 people. Concerts and plays are held there.

“Good choice for staying in the downtown Wausau area”

The hotel is a great value for the Wausau area, however I did have a few minor issues while staying there. One was the 'complimentary breakfast.' The choices are bleak and no hot foods whatsoever. Even roadside motels offering the 'complimentary breakfasts' have more choices than the Jefferson, so don't get too excited about the inclusion of a breakfast with your room. Second, they offered the "USA Today" complimentary newspaper, but you could not get the local paper anywhere in the hotel!!! Very frustrating and I have never stayed at a hotel/motel where the local paper was not available.

“Noise and heat”

Our airconditioner malfunctioned. We did not get to our room until 11;00 pm or later. We turned on the airconditioner and there was a humming noise that progressed to a more annoying noise. Our room was close to 80 degrees when we awoke the next morning after a restless night. We complained to the front desk the next morning and they graciously apologized but that was the extent of it. We certainly are not the type to look for a freebie but some kind of comp would have been in order all considered. This may have been an isolated incident but none-the-less our stay for that particular night was not good. I have stayed here in the past with no trouble so all in all a good hotel.

“Not the cut above it used to be.”

They have taken the exceptional quality they were built for and now have become just a nice hotel. The receptionist at the restaurant was rather rude when we tried to check out the selections they had in the morning.

“Quite Impressed”

The Inn was much more than I expected for the center of Wisconsin. Very nice room, shops within the building and a solid restaurant made the experience quite nice. Also found several nice restaurants /shops in easy (3 block) walking distance. Would definitely return.

Area recommendations

The Inn is located in a nice area of shops and restaurants; nice parking ramp connects to Inn via enclosed bridge.
