Pros & cons

Posted 26-Jul-2014
Pros:close to what we wanted to see & do. Room was clean. Brought complimentary, bottled water to room each night. Timely response from room service the one night we used it. Friendly front desk & bell men. Cons:room & bathroom - small! Floors in our room, very squeeky. ( I know this place is old but just letting you know). Exterior window room - very noisy from sirens (a lot of sirens, ALL the time) Interior room looking over atrium, quiet but cave like and wifi recep iffy. Limited restaurants in 5-10 min walk.

Old but good location

Posted 23-Jul-2014
Pros: Location and good value for the price considering the area
Cons: Elevators with rugged walls seem to have been accumulating dust from a long time ago
Location: Everuthing, just walk down the 14th street
Of course it says it´s a historic hotel but some things could be mantained in a better way, specially the elevator. Location is excellent, we were on a relative short stroll to all major attractions and the price is very good compared to the other options in the area. Staff was polite but the valet parking service is kind of long.

Not what they say

Posted 21-Jul-2014
Pros: The location and the food at the Tavern restaurant.
Cons: Improve staffers. Some do not speak English, most don't even the area or points of interest.
Location: Location was fine
We recently did a weekend at the Henley Park based on its location and age. We enjoy older hotels for their charm and staff. However, the first moment we stepped into the lobby we knew we were in trouble. I asked if the parking fee $33 per day was correct? The staffer laughed and said no it is $39 per day when you add the taxes which is added every day you stay. So basically you are being told you are a sap for believing the website. The room was the size of most peoples bedroom. The windows faced other building with no view and no way to get light in without having workers watching you. Also, we asked to have a cab available for 7 the following morning and was told no problem. When we were in the lobby we were then told "just go hail one". The next insult was when we asked for a list of Catholic Churches and was told I don't know any. Most of the staff had poor understanding of the English language and could not speak effectively. All in all a very disappointing stay.

Lovely 'character' hotel in a good location.

Posted 20-Jul-2014
Pros: Style and cleanliness.
Cons: Acoustic barrier (windows)
Location: Excellent - handy to all Washington attractions.
Really enjoyed our stay. Staff made us welcome and were extremely helpful. Only complaint would be the road noise at night - the hotel is on a corner, it does have double glazing but road noise was more than expected for this style of hotel.

Friendly Staff

Posted 14-Jul-2014
Stayed here from July 10-July 13. Booked through Expedia.com. I was supposed to check in late Wednesday, but due to flight delays, I ended up checking in at 10:00 am on Thursday. Staff was extremely friendly. Restaurant/Bar is really nice (live jazz music on Saturday). Rooms are small but very clean (not noisy at all, as others have mentioned). Free wifi, good A/C, in-room safe, refrigerator, coffee maker....The only thing I didn't like was the pillows. They're way too big... but I guess that's a matter of personal preference. Metro stations are a little far, but I enjoy walking, so that worked out great for me. I was able to walk to the National Mall area (again, I enjoy walking!). Plenty of places to eat nearby (Starbucks, Subway, etc.). Overall, a very convenient and safe location. As others have mentioned, the hotel called a private limo service for the ride back to the airport, but it was pretty much the same as the cab ride to the hotel. Quite frankly, it made no difference to me. I would recommend this hotel to mature travelers who appreciate the sort of historic charm this hotel has to offer. I would not recommend for people who are looking for more modern accommodations, swimming pools, nightlife, etc.

I don't like surprice charges.

Posted 14-Jul-2014
Pros: Comfortable bed and great pillows.
Cons: Tell people ahead of time about hidden charges like parking at $39 brefore you book hotel on Expedia.
Location: about 30 minute walk to Washington Monument.
When arrived at the hotel, I found out the parking fee for 24 hours is $39. If you take the small guide for restaurants in the room, the charge is $3.95. Mini-bar expensive so if you want something..take it to your room. Overall, nice place but find another place to park.
