Attractive place, but odd issues

Posted 22-Jan-2015
Pros: The décor, kitchen and location were great.
Cons: Have locks on the bathrooms, replace the glass doors & vertical blinds, have an easy loading spot for luggage, and someone beside the desk clerk.
Location: central location, near the main sights
The hotel is in a pretty early 20th century building with modern sleek interiors and stone floors. Robes and slippers are in the rooms. The kitchen was full size with stainless appliances. There was no expense spared for the décor, which made the other issues weird. I found out that the owner is Chinese, so cultural differences may account for it. The entrance is supposed to be locked at midnight, but when we arrived at 11:30, it was already locked and we (and other unlucky guests) had to ring for several minutes to be let in. There is no help with bags. I had to hold the door for my husband and son to carry the luggage up the stairs to the lobby before we could even get a luggage cart. The clerk just watched. There is no gym, contrary to advertising. There are no locks on the bathrooms, and the bathroom and bedroom have etched glass doors - so no privacy, and a light in one room can wake up everyone. There are no blackout shades, only skimpy vertical blinds. Again, little privacy or light control. The toilet was stopped up during our stay. There are no service people, but the desk clerk brought me a plunger to fix it myself. If he's away from his desk, there's no one to help at all. The sofa bed was awful, so we put the mattress on the floor with a sleeping bag. It wasn't the worst place I've stayed, but I'm not sure I'd go again.

Luxury Suites at Midrange Prices

Posted 20-Jan-2015
Pros: Small luxury touches everywhere: the full kitchen with dishwasher, the multi-jet shower, the decorative doors. Things were also very quiet and relaxed
Cons: The wifi was pretty slow. Marble floors do get cold at night and slippery when wet. They provided bathrobes and slippers but the quality was not great
Location: It's not in the fanciest of neighborhoods, but we felt safe walking to and from the metro, which is right nearby. You can get to DCA very quickly too.
The Eldon is a great hotel if you want to feel like you're staying at a fancy place but can't truly afford one. The suites are beautiful, and very large, with posh touches everywhere. Of course, this is still a midrange cost hotel, so there are also tiny flaws everywhere, but nothing that will spoil your enjoyment. If you look for problems, you will find them. But if you're too busy enjoying the city, all you'll see is the multi-jet shower, the comfortable couch, and the big plush bed. To be fair, we're easy to satisfy. We didn't need breakfast, or a lot of concierge service, a pool or a fitness center or a wake up call. The staff did let us check in several hours early, which was very nice. But beyond that, we just needed a nice place to crash at the end of the day. And we definitely got one!

It was very conveniently located. However, the staff were unwelcoming and unhelpful.

No Vending Machines

Posted 05-Jan-2015
The only reason i didnt give this hotel a perfect score is because there is no vending machines. there is a CVS right around the corner, but it is still inconvenient. I dont think it would be that hard to have a few. Also a plain breakfast the is $6/person. Its a good lil walk to the monuments but i enjoyed it.

Convenient location, close to the Metro

Posted 04-Jan-2015
Convenient location, close to the Yellow and Red line of Metro. Walking distance of CVS, Giant and Convention Center. It is a restored hotel but the apartment is really comfortable with a good kitchen and fridge.

Room :) Staff :(

Posted 02-Jan-2015
Stayed overnight on new year's eve! The front desk staff were somewhat rude. The customer in front of us was upset over something right when we walked in and instead of helping her they kept blaming Expedia. At the end of our stay, when I asked for a receipt to ensure no extra charges had been added, they suggested I call Expedia. The hotel itself was nice, except for some cheap-looking wood on the walls, but the staff didn't seem to be as professional as I expected for such a nice place. Also as a side note, the two places just next door are quite literally boarded up- our taxi thought we were going down the wrong street until we pulled in right in front of the hotel!

basement rooms are bad

Posted 08-Dec-2014
Pros: fully-equiped kitchen, convenient location
Cons: basement rooms should NOT host any guests
Location: Chinatown and metro station within walking distance; a CVS store next door; a cafe owned by an asian lady is convenien but food and service is so so.
The first night I stayed in a basement room. It was awful. Internet was on and off; phone signals were terribly weak; toilet flushing sound went through the wall every ten minutes; the mechanical room next door was often loud; TV couldn't turn on... in a word, nothing seemed to work! I requested a room change the following morning and the room on the 7th floor was great!

For the price this is a great place to stay.

Posted 07-Dec-2014
Pros: It's close to the places that people want to visit, plus it has a full kitchen.
Cons: The continental breakfast isn't worth the price.
I was only in D.C. for a one-day event, but I would definitely consider the Eldon for a longer stay.
