Front desk staff here were very helpful and welcoming. The lobby was recently revamped and is cozy and modern, though the bartender could have been friendlier. The suite setup was really nice as well - two rooms to spread out plus a full kitchen (dishwasher and all!). Commercial area of Georgetown was a quick walk for shopping, and Foggy Bottom Metro stop was only about three blocks away. Overall, this was a great place to stay.
I travelled with my elder parents and was concerned, mostly because the hotel was a basic hotel. I called prior to departure just to ensure I wasn't making a bad judgment call. I spoke to Debie who was WONDERFUL. She said, you're here for a long time (9 days) and she upgraded us to a room with a microwave and refrigerator. Red Roof was terrific - other than no breakfast options, and having to go to the reception area for coffee, as my mother said - nothing was missing. The staff was helpful and more importantly, the rooms were clean. If anyone has mobility issues, they have an elevator for the upper floors as well.
We chose Alexandria, Virginia - and it proved to be the right choice. The hotel is on the highway but incredibly close to the Metro and provided my needs beyond clean and comfortable: free parking and free internet.
I wish there was a shuttle to the airport. But otherwise the staff was extremely helpful and eager to help me find places close by to eat or do things. They even offered to bring it up to my hotel room instead of making me wait by their desk.
