Charming Blend of Old and New

Posted 20-Jul-2015
Pros: I liked that it was recently renovated and had a new feel, but was a historic building. The rooms were large and comfortable.
Cons: The air conditioning system so it does not leak (not sure firsr room was the only one; the second room had a spot on the ceiling too but wasn't leaky.
Location: Very close to Convention Center, ten minute walk to Smithsonian American Museum of Art, just a few minutes further to Archives, Ford's Theater.
I booked this hotel for a couple reasons. First was the location-it is within walking distance to the Mall, a Metro, and major historic attractions, but not in the thick of things. Secondly, it is a small recently renovated boutique-style hotel, and as I wasn't brining my kids on this trip, I wanted something special. I wasn't disappointed. While most of my trip was spent outside of the hotel, the hours i spent there were wonderful. My corner room had high ceilings (I believe all the rooms do) with tall windows and luxurious drapery. The decor was tasteful but not overdone. The bed was amazing, the pillows more so. The bathroom was tiny and dark, but I'm not one to spend much time in there, so it served my needs. The only complaint I have is there was leak in the ceiling, likely due to the air conditioning, that soaked the floor in front of the bathroom. The last night of my stay, the management moved me to the room next door, which was a bit of an upgrade, decorated tastefully with the historic look the Morrison Clark was originally for. I felt like I'd been transported back in time just one room away! The staff was very pleasant and accommodating, especially the daytime doorman who greeted every day with a smile. I can't comment on the food as I did not eat there at all, but there was a fully stocked mini-fridge in the room if you needed an expensive candy bar or drink or nip! (There's a CVS just steps away if you need things. For the price I paid, it was more than worth it

Stay somewhere else

Our room was a disappointment for the price. The in house restaurant food was TERRIBLE. A bottle of beer was $8 at the bar. When using the shower the water from it would run into the rest of the bathroom. Would not stay here again.

Tale of two hotel rooms

Posted 12-Jul-2015
Pros: Room 611. Avoid it. It is on the top floor next to the roof with many HVAC compressors. I can sleep through a lot, but the dull roar was brutal.
Cons: Serious soundproofing of the windows.
Location: A pleasant walk to the White House and the National Mall.
Due to a cancelled flight home, I ended up at this hotel for 2 nights instead of 1. The first night was one of the loveliest nights I have had a hotel. They upgraded me to a suite, which was a nice treat. The bed was incredibly comfortable and decor wonderful. I felt relaxed and slept like a rock. The second night, I was given a regular size room on the top floor. Still a lovely room, with a similar comfortable bed. But it was next to the roof full of HVAC compressors. Brutal. I could not sleep through the noise--and I can sleep through a lot. The HVAC system inside the room was also noisy, with a random loud rattle coming on every once in a while, and the temperature hard to get right. I slept for maybe an hour. It was truly the worst night's sleep in as long as I can remember. Overall, the rooms were clean, but I there was a noticeable hair on the sink counter in the 2nd room that was clearly not mine. The modern addition to this hotel is lovely. The lobby is stylish and comfortable. I ate at the bar both nights. The food was very good. And the bartender was so nice and easy to talk with, and terrific at his job. The staff person when I checked in was gracious and thorough. And the doorman on the morning of 7/2 went above and beyond to chase down a cab for me in the pouring rain. My cab driver told me what an effort he had made. I really appreciate that! Overall, I absolutely recommend the hotel. Just avoid room 611 (and others along the roofline).

Clean, quiet, convenient

This hotel was a great find. Right next to convention center, but cheaper than the neighboring Marriott. All members of the staff were very courteous. We ate breakfast there one day and were very pleased. Will look this one up again when we visit DC next.

Beautiful hotel and great location

Posted 02-Jul-2015
Pros: Location was a primary factor in our choice. We were only two blocks from the metro, and within a 10 minute walk of the Smithsonian museums.
Cons: Everything was new, clean and fresh. We couldn't have been more pleased.
Location: We were near the Washington Convention Center. With easy access to the metro, e had no trouble getting anywhere.
We stayed in a brand new section of the hotel. Everything was new, fresh and beautiful. We were greeted curbside and our car was taken care of immediately. Our check in was quick and everything was ready for us upon arrival. The room was comfortable and extremely quiet.
