“Odd location, School for Deaf”
Although the hotel was a good deal, the location is not good. The hotel is located ON CAMPUS of Gallaudet University, a school for the deaf. During the weekends and at nights, all but one entrance is closed, making for an even longer walk to the metro (not a good idea at night in this area of town). If you have a car, but want to stay somewhat close to downtown, this place is okay. If you plan on using the metro, this is not the hotel for you.
“Not impressed”
Bad location to stay
“Free shuttle bus every 20 minutes, great service”
I stayed at the hotel from Sun 23rd Oct to Wed 26th Oct with my wife and 15 month daughter. The check-in process was very easy and the receptionist gave us a number of leaflets about Washington, which were very helpful. I had requested a cot, but this had not been supplied, but this was rectified during the check in process, very efficient. The huge benefit of this hotel is that it is part of the University and as such, there is a free shuttle bus to and from Union Station every 20 minutes. From there you can virtually go anywhere in the city. They depart from 0600 and the last one is about 2145 and later at the weekend. This proved very useful and saved a lot of money on taxis. The actual area around the hotel is not the best, so would not suggest heading out after dark, but maybe my perception is wrong. The hotel is a conference hotel, but assuming you do not mind a busy lobby during the day, the hotel is fine. Breakfast is excellent with a wide range of hot and cold food available. The only negative is that they do not serve dinner, only breakfast and lunch. They do have fresh sandwiches, salads, coffee, snacks etc 24 hours a day next to the reception desk. I would certainly stay at the hotel in the future.
“Gallaudet in DC”
Hotel was OK for the price. The hotel is on the campus of a university for the deaf. Everyone was quite accommodating whether you could hear or not. The carpets could use cleaning. They were getting that sticky/tacky feel when they've been cleaned several times yet the shampoo wasn't properly rinsed, dried and/or removed. The shower had some mold. A properly and thoroughly cleaned shower won't collect mold, I don't care if it is in a hotel. Other than that, it was quiet and convenient to downtown. There was a exercise room but it had been damaged by the rains from the hurricane. I found a quiet corner in the lobby in which to do my morning exercises. Even with the minor complaints, I would stay there again.
“Convenient Hotel in Washington DC”
The overall service for this hotel was fine. The convenience of the shuttle to and from Union Station and the ability of restaurants onsite. All the personnel were friendly and helpful at the hotel. We experienced two issues during our stay. One day when we returned to our room, the maid inadvertently left the dirty linens in our room. When I notified the front desk they sent someone up immediately. Also, the glasses were not replaced daily when they were used, lipstick on the edge of the water glass. The last couple of days of our stay the maids neglected to give us the cream & sugar packets for our coffee.
“college hotel”
Although they are a little away from the action they provide a convenient shuttle service.
“Excellent Hotel, Great friendly staff”
I stayed at the Kellogg while taking a class at Gallaudet University. I was there for 2 weeks. There is shuttle service to Union Station until 7:30 pm every day. They also have a VERY nice man that provides a shuttle service to ANY WHERE in the DC area free of charge. All of the staff were great and extremely helpful. There is also 24 hour security on campus, which made me feel very safe. I would recommend this hotel to any one, and if I am in the DC area I would stay there again.
“Great DC hotel centrally located”
My husband and I stayed at the Gallaudet University Kellogg Conference Center Hotel in July, 2011. Alva at the front desk was very attentive; while the first room wasn't a king bed, we were moved the following night to a corner, king size bed room. The location of this hotel is quiet, the shuttle takes you to and from Union Station on a regular schedule and the hotel price was really great compared to other hotels. The breakfast offerings were meager but Union Station has some nice breakast spots. We'd definitely stay here again as the staff went out of their way to assure our stay was comfortable.
“A Hotel on a beautiful college campus - Great Idea!”
I knew this college and liked the idea of supporting this college by staying at their hotel on campus. The rates were very reasonable and lower than the fancier hotels. I hope more folks agree with me and more colleges will do this to support themselves in tough financial times.
“Awesome hotel”
Rooms were very large, clean and modern. The hotel appeared to be brand new. Service was top notch and the young woman at the front desk was excellent - she even offered to order in our supper when we inquired about local restaurants. The little "shop" next to the front desk was very convenient for buying drinks, snacks and cappicinos. We made use of the free shuttle to union station. One drawback - the street out front of the university's main gate did not look very inviting and the guard at the gate told us not to walk after dark. However, this is probably the case for any major city.
