“Great hotel”
This is right off a Metro stop, within walking distance to the National Mall and lots of restaurants. Other reviewers noted the rooms being too small. We didn't feel the room was any smaller than a typical hotel room. It was a beautiful hotel, and every night the staff hosted a happy hour with free wine and beer. We never heard any other guests or their tvs through the walls, which was a big plus. Also, other reviewers noted the entryway being too small. It is the size of a typical doorway. So if you can't fit through the door of your home with all of your stuff, then you won't fit through the door of the hotel. It's really not a big deal. If we ever return to DC, we will be staying here.
“Fascinating architecture and great service.”
Highly Recommended
“Disappointed. A wonderful hotel not complimented by receptiveness or professionalism. Racist.”
I thought that the hotel decor and design were wonderful and well thought through. In fact, one of the best decorated hotels I have visited, and I am a travellor. This was however not matched by the attitude of the staff who treated me with disdain, did not provide accurate information, such they said there was no room service as the kitchen was being renovated when this clearly was not true. I was given brochures to purchase pizza and take away food instead! Why would I travel and pay so much for such service? I have nothing against pizza, but I will purchase it on my own steam. Items were also added to my bill and it was difficult to resolve them. Entered into a humiliating process of over 20 minutes to resolve this while my taxi fare was ticking outside. No apology received. A pity because this is a well located and well thought out hotel. The only saving grace was the brunch at the restaurant, if a bit over priced... Will rethink a revisit and it is a shame for the group that this could be its flagship given its location. Pity! I got it for cheap so I am not so disappointed. If I had paid the full price, I would be very very disheartened by the service I received. The room staff were great as were the bell service. Thank you to them. Best to future customers, I will not be one of them.
“nice hotel BUT tiny room”
paid fora 40% off hotel- name unspecified and got this hotel. neighborhood was great and service was great. BUT the room was tiny!!! Guess the discounted rate gets you the smallest room.
“Would stay again”
Valet service was excellent. Restaurant hours were too limited for our travel schedule and had difficulty finding a restaurant nearby in which to have breakfast on Labor Day. Overall a pleasant experience. Would stay there again.
“LeeNunn”
Great location, across the corner is a subway and many eatery's within 3 blocks. 15 minute stroll to the mall (where the museums and memorials are) Hotel has an interesting Decor. The building was an old post office once before that now is a modern bright colored hotel with a contemporary feel to it. Over all service was pretty good. Parking was not cheap about $40 per day with their valet service. There is no parking lots only a few garages that they rent from someone else, so your vehicle will be parked a few blocks away and only can they get it.(which takes about 15minutes, seeing how they run on foot to go and get it) But they will get it anytime you want, other places will lock their garages at 12am. Many bar/clubs near by. A plus, free coffee in the morning and wine, beer. At different times of the day. Bed was a bit on the hard side and water pressure for shower was kind of low But both were over all good. I would come back again.
“Great Hotel Great Service Great Location”
This hotel was above my expectations. This was a different neighborhood for us to know. Surprisingly close to Smithsonian museums and Mall. One of us was working while other was sight seeing. Multiple Metro stations in neighborhood. Even had car rental half block away (cars can be picked up there and left at airport). For Sports and movie fans, the Arena cross street. Visit the Portrait Galley of Smithsonian across street. Try to be back in late afternoon for the wine, beer or cocktail managers event. Very relaxed. Join the Kimpton hotel frequent visitors club and receive free wireless and snack certificate. In general, we found the staff helpful, even attentive. They volunteered information and responded immediately when help needed. Watch for good Expedia rates -- this is an upscale option but a lovely place (interior architecture of this historic building is also a treat). Lots of good food options in neighborhood. Also close to Newseum and U.S. Capital.
“OK Hotel...But BEWARE of the extremely tiny rooms!”
I would go back only if I got the same great rate again. I did not like it that they charged my credit card $200 up front for incidentals even though I did not make any charges (this charge is still pending on my credit card). It was a 2 minute walk to the China Gallery Metro Stop which was extremely convenient. Also within 5-10 minutes of the convention center.
“very pleasant stay”
I enjoyed my stay at the Monaco hotel. I've stayed here twice. The room this time was quite small, but still comfortable. Internet was free, and worked well.
“Very nice hotel and location”
My wife was very impressed by the room and the window seats that overlooked E Wacker Drive and the river view. The service was great - they remember your names (how?). Starbucks coffee in the AM and wine in the PM - what's not to like about that?
