Prime location to great restaurants and bars!

Great, trendy location, and only a few blocks from monuments and museums. Staff was prompt, helpful, and very accommodating. The room was spotless. Definitely a great place to go for couples!

Helpful, friendly staff; fun rooms

Posted 13-Oct-2014
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Helix. The location was great for dining in the neighborhood and for getting around DC. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the decor was a complete kick. We would absolutely stay there again.

Nice hotel, but you're gonna pay

Posted 12-Oct-2014
The hotel itself is beautiful. Bright vibrant colors, pop culture portraits adorning the walls, etc. Very, very mod style. However the valet parking was $50 (which let's face it, in DC is completely necessary), the items in the prepped fridge were absurdly overpriced (hip bottle of water? $6), and the menu items were very, very expensive. The room itself was extremely clean and wonderfully designed (I fell in love with the bright striped futon and footstool...comfy and gorgeous!). There was a three sided mirror in the room, gauzy curtains that added an ethereal air, a large b&w portrait of a surfing wave behind the large, comfortable queen sized bed, and just many other details that gave the room a terrific look. Overall, nice stay, comfortable, great looking hotel...just expensive when it comes to certain things. Seven eleven is a block away. Don't pay $6 for water. Otherwise staying here is pretty nice.

Funky hotel

Posted 10-Oct-2014
Pros: Staff were friendly, the room was spacious and very funky with great lighting and extra features which were very modern. Food & bar area great.
Cons: Really just getting up to the room could take a while as the lifts are small, but not a real problem for us.
Location: Plenty of restaurants, cafe's and bars on 14th street and not far to walk to all the Memorials and Museums. We liked the location.
We arrived early as a group were checking in so stored the cases as check-in wasn't available until 2pm. Not a problem for us as we only flew from Boston so we headed downtown which was a short walk down 14th street. The street had plenty of cafes and bars and the hotel is probably a 20 minute was to the main area of town. The hotel had a reasonably priced restaurant and the food was excellent. Free wine up till 6pm which a nice touch and we sat in the outside garden area (smoking allowed) and had a few drinks and good food. Would definitely stay there again if in Washington.

Nice location, but less than desirable rooms

Posted 06-Oct-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Needs to be updated and more practical. Outlets were in weird places, lack of counter space, no place to put toiletries in the shower, a usable fridge
Location: Within a mile of most DC attractions and great restaurants
Hotel was in a nice location and within walking distance to most DC hot spots. There are also some great restaurants just minutes away. Overall, I was disappointed in the hotel itself. Our room, though filled with trendy decor and furniture did not cover up pealing wall paper, a leak in the ceiling, a broken shower faucet, and a lamp shade taped together with electrical tape. The beds were very uncomfortable and I had some of the worst nights of sleep I have had in a long time. Another annoyance was we were locked out of our room 3 times during our stay. The staff was friendly and accommodating despite some mix ups with our reservations, but I still would not stay there again.

Good location for visiting our son at college

Posted 05-Oct-2014
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Bathroom door and around sink could have been cleaner
Location: You can walk to many things. Restaurants, stores, etc.
Parking was very high for overnight. Staff was always very kind and helpful. Can't put my finger on what I didn't like exactly.

Nothing special

Posted 28-Sep-2014
Pros: Clean, and good wifi
Cons: Room configuration is odd, but it's not something that can be fixed without major renovation
Location: Excellent location, loads of restaurants in walking distance
I've seen better hotels at twice the price, but not at that location in the center of Washington.

Cons: Has the feel of a high end hotel for trysts. Staff was awesome and down-to-earth, but the decor was too hip, felt like a dance club.
Friendly staff, immaculate hotel; but decor was like a dance club.

Funky and friendly in DC.

This is a nice little boutique hotel in a fairly quiet area. Called early and they said I could have an early check in, but was found to be in error when I arrived...so they upgraded my room. Friendly staff, free wine tasting every day, comfy room, zebra print robes! Be sure to rock out to the alternative hits of the 90s in the elevator! Also make sure you join the free rewards program for FREE wifi...otherwise it's 10 bucks a day.
