Fun hotel, nice staff.

Fun atmosphere but a little run down. The staff was nice and helpful. I was not happy that the shampoo and conditioner and body wash were in refillable containers in the shower instead of individual samples.

Not so great experience

Posted 13-Jun-2015
I was excited to stay at this hotel as I have stayed before in past years. I was disappointed to see how unkept the hotel was. The walls were very beat up, the bathroom sink was very beat up as well. Sadly, this was not the worst, after getting ready to get in bed after an exhausting day, I was beyond upset to find hair in my bed, I found this to be extremely disgusting! I called the front desk who told me the house keeping staff had left for the night & he could at best bring me sheets but could not change the bed. After a tiring exchange, the manager moved me to another room, unfortunately there was hair in the sink and in the bed AGAIN in the new room I was moved to. At this point, the time is close to 1am and I am so full with emotions, that I seriously began looking at other hotels in the area I could stay at. The overnight managed moved me to another room and mentioned that he felt bad because he would have to move guest who had not checked in to another hotel as if this were my fault that there seemed to be no clean sheets without hair in them. I really love Kimpton properties, but I will never book at the Helix again.

Can get noisy at times but otherwise great hotel. Modern. Rooms need more outlets but not a bad room. Beds are comfortable

The staff is wonderful. The rooms could be updated a bit, especially the bathroom.

Great location and staff

Pros: Staff, location
Cons: Elevator speed
Everything was fantastic. The elevators are slow, however.

Good location, meh hotel.

Night concierge was terribly rude on arrival. He refused to help us with DC street parking rules, which by the way are terrible. We had to go to the holiday inn across the street, who were very nice and helpful with the question we had. The Helixl gave us a room different than what we signed up for. Showers were difficult to turn on and we had to call engineering. Our sink was in terrible condition (looked like it was made out of paper).

Not up to Kimpton standards

Posted 19-Apr-2015
Pros: Hotel is in a good location but that's all that we liked.
Cons: Lots could be improved here, from the condition & appearance of the property to the helpfulness of the staff.
I've stayed at multiple Kimpton hotels in many east & west coast cities but this is by far the worst of them. This hotel may look modern in photos but the neon colors were surely chosen as a way to hide the grime. Apoarently, vacuum cleaners here don't reach all the way into corners. If this hotel was updated in the past, it seems to have been done on a very tight budget. 'Tight' is a good adjective to describe the hotel management and the room. I've been a member of Kimpton's rewards program for several years; I've always made my reservations through 3rd parties but this is the first time I've been denied the program's perks for having done so. The guy who checked us in at the front desk upon arrival was full of glee that we wouldn't be receiving the $10 credit for the minibar or points for the stay. I mean, come on, we pay $400/night and they deny a single $10 credit to claim overpriced junk from the minibar, lol. The bedroom was big enough but there was only 12-inch walk space around the bed. The view from our 4th floor room (which in itself was some sort of illusion as I swear it felt like the elevation of a 2nd floor) was of the trash collection area for multiple establishments - think, early morning truck noise. A large mattress that had been spray painted remained there for the entire duration of our stay. The bathroom was cramped & tiny and there was no hand soap. "We don't have any," said the room service lady. Eventually, she found a bar of face soap that we used.
