“Hostel in a luxury hotel clothing”
Overly designed, Poorly done. Extremely uncomfortable. Cheap hostel that designed as a luxury hotel.
“You want to love this hotel! You really do but...”
I have always wanted to stay here since I have booked dozens of rooms for board and staff members visiting DC. Although I was upgraded to a larger room, thanks to a a very professional and friendly front desk staff, I found the post-modern decor to be odd though interesting. Negative: There's no bureau or place to store your things, no credenza other than the desk. The bed, which sits on a low platform bed, is too low to set your suitcase on. While the room is good looking enough -- and rather quiet even being on the street side overlooking Thomas Circle -- the rooms seemed to lack something. I prefer more traditional hotel settings. The carpeting is coming up in corners and my impression is that the hotel needs a face lift from its hip owners. The bathroom is gorgeous beautifully appointed, The bed is comfortable, although it feels like a futon bed. My other problem: A former quest or staff had pulled a juice from the mini-bar leaving it unopened and sitting on the counter. I believe I was charged for it. The mini-bar is expensive and they charge $2 for a small cup of bad coffee. I felt I was nicked and dimed at every turn, especially the Internet which cost $15 per day. The hotel's location is convenient to the growing, vibrant 14th Street corridor and Whole Foods is only a ten minute walk. There's a 24/7 CVS across the street and the White House is a brisk 10-12 walk away, together with K Street, where most of the lobby work is done in DC.
“Nice hotel”
Very nice and value hotel The spiral shower is interesting but the water pressure is so low it's irritating
“Had a great time”
Great hotel in perfect location
“pool closed”
Roof top pool closed and roof top lounge closed. Advertisement did not mention this. It was a main reason for choosing hotel. Also no breakfast. Parking was nearly 50 dollars a day.
“great location”
very trendy
“something slightly off”
This hotel seemed too good to be true from the website/some yelp reviews. After staying there, I felt the decor was intriguing but ultimately a veneer for cheap furniture and economy rooms. The room had no outlet in the bathroom?! Dresser was scratched and water-damaged. Worst thing is there was hair on the towels when I first walked in- i had to call housekeeping to replace them. Overall, not thrilled, the only good things about this place are the location and price.
“Fun & boutiquey”
Donovan House is a great hotel. Easy walking distance to Verizon Center (1 mile). The room was a little smaller than we expected, but it was nice. Very modernly furnished. The shower was pretty cool, looked like something in which you could be beamed up! Very nice pool bar/club on the roof; chillout music and heating lamps made it a great place for a nightcap in October. We'd go back!
“Looking shabby”
Good location, but the hotel is looking very shabby -- in common areas and in the rooms. Needs a good cleaning, new carpets and paint.
“Great deal for a great price”
Two things: the bathroom wasn't perfectly clean and we weren't able to use the swimmingpool on the rooftop (i think at the evening it should be the best, but there were a public party). Otherwise it was a nice hotel with nice staff.
