Romantic break

Posted 14-Feb-2015
Pros: The stunning location and historic charm of the property. Friendliness of staff .Value for money.
Cons: The food portions are tiny. We are not big eaters, but we were left hungry and had to fill up on bread. Vegetables cost extra.
Location: Lots of nice walks from the hotel but you have to drive to go to the town or places of interest.
We recently stayed for a one night romantic break. It wasn't long enough! Every aspect of the hotel was just perfect for us. The attention to detail is excellent, from the fresh flower arrangements, to bed linen, fluffy dressing gowns, and toiletries. Our premium room was more like a suite and for a small charge you can have breakfast served in your room. We didn't have time to make full use of the leisure complex, but the pool is a good size and the changing rooms spotlessly clean. Gym is better than most hotels of this category, and there is a studio with classes. Dining room is very attractive, service good and food high quality. The whole ambience in the hotel is warm and lovely and we can't recommend it highly enough.

Nice hotel, but room service was limited

Posted 17-Nov-2014
Had a nice stay at Walton hall with my wife and was very happy with the hotel except it took 20mins to get through to reception to book a well earned meal , menu was very limited and some of the food was cold. Tv also does not allow you to connect any devices!

Pick your time to visit carefully!

Pros: Location and grounds.
Location: Local walks are lovely. Stratford u/Avon conveniently close.
This is a nice country house hotel with lovely grounds and walking opportunities. It is also ideal for wedding parties. But if you are not in the wedding party, it is pretty miserable on a Saturday night. The public areas are quite limited and there is simply nowhere / no way of avoiding the slightly tipsy, rather loud - but frankly often very funny - elderly relatives in the wedding party. It's certainly not the hotel's fault and no one in the wedding party is in any way misbehaving - just don't expect a quiet/romantic night! If there is one saving grace, it is the delightful reception staff: top marks to them.

Charming old country house hotel

We stayed in a suite (room 30) which is set over 3 floors of the tower in the main hall. Very nice apart from the flies in the top living room area. Breakfast was good and served in room and we enjoyed an excellent meal and service in the main restaurant.

4 star this isn't!

Bad service, staff with attitude, dirty bar. We were given a room above a wedding despite there being other rooms away from the event! Service was extremely slow with clueless staff. No visible sign of management sorting things out. The guy on reception had an attitude problem when I went to complain like I'd stood in something. The saving grace was Scott the bar man who did his best and knew what service was. This is a lovely setting and could be a great place to stay, if they sort themselves out!

Golden Wedding Celebration

Posted 05-Aug-2014 on Hotels.com
We booked this for our parents as a gift for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Our parents had suite 2 and absolutely loved it. We went all out to try and give a memory to remember after mum had also recovered from ill health. They haven't stopped talking about it and would love to go back again. Breakfast on the 3rd was a bit of a disaster as lots of dinners descended at 9.30 and they didn't have enough food cooked and service was disorganised with the young staff having no real direction we waited 45 minutes for our pot of tea and toast. That said the staff helped the rest of the stay go without a hitch. Was a lovely romantic venue, steeped in history and the food in the evening was delicious and breakfast on 4th was how you would expect for a 4 star accom. Soon the problems from the day before were forgotten and we enjoyed the games on the lawn as did we enjoy walking the grounds. Overall amazing experience and glad we chose Walton Hall for our parents very special occasion. I'm sure they will be going back as soon as they have a valid excuse. lol

Parents Golden Wedding Anniversary Weekend

Posted 05-Aug-2014 on Hotels.com
Overall it was amazing, lovely location, very calming and welcoming, a true bit of old England in beautiful countryside. The room we stayed in was 23 a magnificent spacious room with the best hotel pillows we ever had. A couple of small teething problems, safe was broken and could not be repaired, TV remote was missing meaning we had to get up out of bed to turn the TV set off although this was a minor niggle. No bath robes until requested. Breakfast on Sunday 3rd was chaotic waited 45 minutes for tea and toast by then the eggs had gone cold, That said we were giggling and getting to know people on other tables and sharing what was brought out (we had champagne in our room before breakfast so this helped). That said the place was amazing and everything after this was truly perfect and we were able to overlook the chaos at breakfast and the frustrations in our room because everything else incl. our parents suite number 2 was perfect. A special well done to Bradley in the evening restaurant who made sure our parents golden wedding anniversary meal went without a hitch. Even bringing out the cake we had brought with us. All staff were polite, helpful and we would definitely recommend this hotel. Just make sure you have enough staff and cooks to cope with the demands for breakfast when you have a wedding. Otherwise a great memory that will be treasured for ever. Thank you
