“Log fires were needed”
Hotel in fantastic spot. Staff efficient and helpful. Room good size but cold on arrival had to be moved to another room because of lack of heating in bathroom. New room was perfect. Buffet breakfast was very good but evening meal a little disappointing.
“Excellent but at a cost”
Excellent hotel with great room and bar but cost of breakfast at £15 each on top of room rate was prohibitive. Will go back if can get same deal.
“Almost the best......”
On the last two occasions I have stayed here, their in-room internet system has been a joke. The wireless only works in some rooms but, unfortunately, the check in staff are not given reliable information as to which rooms these are. On both occasions, therefore, I was given three separate rooms to "try" before settling on one where the wireless actually had signal and connectivity. This is clearly not the fault of the check-in staff who are unfailingly polite and sympathetic in the face of a situation that obviously must be even more annoying for them than it is for the guest. It seems like a ludicrous failing in a hotel which is, in most other respects exemplary. Sort it out, Mercure: it's 2011, We've moved beyond quill pens and mounted messengers.
“Great location, but a pain for parking”
We spent two nights at the Shakespeare hotel, and the location was excellent for the theatres and restaurants. We did not pay for the hotel breakfast but instead visiting a pub across the street which was quite a bit cheaper for a good breakfast. Our rooms were in the Garrick Wing, a separate building behind the main hotel, but the rooms themselves were lovely. The only real complaint we had was that the on-site parking was full, so we had to find and pay for off-site parking, which was several blocks away from the hotel. When we left a piece of jewellery behind in the room, we called reception and they were able to locate it and arrange for it to be shipped to our home address, which was very much appreciated.
“We loved our stay at the Mercure Shakespeare!”
We had a lovely overnight in Stratford-upon-Avon at the Mercure Shakespeare! We couldn't have been more pleased by our spacious room in the Garrick Wing. The reasons to rate the comfort of the room at 4 instead of 5 are: the doors in the building slam very strongly, so you hear and feel it in your room, and some street noise which can be disturbing. I would request a room at the back of the wing next time. The hotel staff were all helpful and pleasant. The breakfast, in a word, fabulous! This is a great place to stay in Stratford, in the centre of town, you can walk everywhere! Take a train or bus, and leave the car at home.
“Stratford visit between busienss meetings”
The location is excellent to see the historical perspective of Startford. The room was fine - especially considering the historical nature of the building. The only complaint I had was that the free internet service was not available in the room, so it was necessary to go to the adjacent pub for the free wireless. I was assured by the hotel staff that the internet upgrade will happen in the future.
“lovely hotel would use again”
hotel was just what we had expected, all old world frontage and rooms done in similar taste. staff very friendly and helpful, location was great everything within walking distance except ann hathaways cottage and the farm. was a bit noisy in the early morning as we were on the front of hotel by main road but we could live with that.
“Great location and great value for money. Would definitely recommend it.”
Great location and excellent value for money. Friendly and helpful staff. No wifi in rooms but free wifi in the bar area (password available at mercure counter). Beds ok. Bathroom adequate. Rooms overall were good. Considering the age of the property, it is in fantastic condition. Lots of great restaurants within 100m of the hotel. Location location.
“Very good location”
Very convenient for anything you want to see or do in Stratford. Staff were all friendly and helpful. This hotel has comfortable public areas with character which added to the stay as there was a group of ten meeting up. The shortbread which comes with the tea and coffee melts in the mouth! Will use this hotel again.
“Exceeded our expectations”
The Mercure Shakespeare is a real treat - looks and feels close to "period" and yet offers convenience of internet. We had a wonderful stay there. I have tried in the past to book there however it was always full (usually summer). The staff and facilities are impressive. Staff is friendly and pleasant. Rooms were extremely clean, maid service was excellent. Services such as the bar, restaurant and grill were great. As a bonus the cast of Royal Shakespeare Co. "Romeo and Juliet" stayed there too so we enjoyed meeting many of the actors we admired the night before at the theater. Our visit to Stratford this time exceeded our expectations thanks to the Mercure Shakespeare. Thanks Expedia for the opportunity!
