Tired and Cold
On one of the coldest nights of the year it wasn't great to find that the heating in the room was not working. I reported this to reception who placed a fan heater in my room but no offer of moving rooms was put forward. With the heater on the room was fine but tying to sleep with a fan heater on was not great so I turned it off only to wake during the night very cold so on went the heater again. The hotel is generally very tiered although attempts have been made to freshen up the bathrooms. The bar area was cold but on a positive note the food was good and the service was decent. If you like a lukewarm breakfast including the coffee then this is the hotel for you. I presume the early risers would have had a hot breakfast but clearly the buffet was not re-stocked.

Very nice location, the room was ok but the family room had 2 single mattresses pushed together to make a bed but not comfortable as the gap in middle. The shower was in a bath and the bed lights did not work the bulbs needs replacement. The restaurant we waited over an hour for the mains to arrive. Was told there was only 1 chef on his own.

Tired Hotel in Need of Refurb
We arrived to find that our booking hadn't been allocated a room so we missed out on a family room. Ended up with last room available in the hotel - the bed was awful and you could really feel the springs. The reception staff were very nice and gave us free breakfast to apologise but it just didn't make up for the awful bed and rubbish night sleep. The breakfast was very poor also - very little hot food. I really don't think this should be a 4 star hotel - it simply isn't.

Clearly having plenty of money spent refurbishing it, but to go and rooms facing road are noisy, but comfy, clean and the evening food options are superb value for money. Continental breakfast expensive for what it is (not taken) a cooked option at the same price point would be a winner, considering the evening food option was excellent. Would use again and look forward to seeing how the extensive refurbishment progresses.

Okay for price
We thoughts on my stay here are varied as there was some good and some aspect disappointing. Firstly I am a great believer in value for money and in that basis it is worth staying here. The hotel is in the middle of the country side with the local shops some 3.5 miles away. Our room 17 was fine, large enough, well presented clean, comfortable bed but too close to the road. So sleep was disturbed by early traffic. This was disappointing as I booked a garden view room, I had a view of a field but the image of the room was more like a standard room, than the GVR shown on Hotels.com We dined in the hotel and the food was okay, but the chef would not allow any variations from the menu, even simple things like “no potatoes” The management need to pay more attention to cleaning standards around the bar and garden areas, it was a lovely evening and we wanted to sit in the garden but the tables were not clean, and staff just walked past the ones that could easily be wiped down. The bar area is very Country Pub styling with nice seating but again the cleaning standards need to be improved. This place is obviously used a lot for functions and those attending the NEC which is 15 mins away, overall a reasonable stay at a value rate.

Bathroom wasn’t very clean, with lime scale on shower head etc and mould on bathroom tiles. Toilet wasn’t flushing properly and toilet roll holder hanging off the wall. Was advised with having room service but didn’t. No one at Reception when arrival, and took a very long time to attend. Wouldn’t pay £100 a night for this hotel.

The hotel really does need an over haul. The bathrooms are old & didn’t feel very clean. However, the beds were comfortable & the bedding was clean & crisp. The pub attached was fine for an evening meal & breakfast was fine too.

An attractive, spacious building, but aged and in need of an overhaul. 'Garden view' actually means 'Agricultural view' as there was no maintained garden to view from my room. Food = below average. OK for an overnight stay if passing through.

I reported a light bulb failure to reception. No interest no note take. Unsurprisingly the bulb was not replaced. No hot water one morning. Really poor mattress as well. Plenty of shiny furniture which was tricky to use as a desk. No discretion in a ground floor room with large windows.

Nice, clean rooms with views of the adjacent fields. Superior double rooms had a really big bed and ample space. A bit remote. Friendly and helpful staff. Free parking. Rooms inconsistent with facilities e.g fridge in one but not in the other. No tissues available and our room had a broken blind which was so difficult to open and close. Overall, a pleasant one night stay.

Beautiful but too quiet
I thought this would be perfect for a Christmas night with friends, so we could enjoy a meal together with no taxis. Although the hotel was lovely, there was no special Christmas meals on and we ate elsewhere. On return around 10pm the whole bar/restaurant was closed.

Overnight stop
Quick over night stay. Bar was open for simple food if you wished but had to order a continental breakfast. Just been bought by a small group from a large chain. Some reduces have been completed but not to a great standard. Bed was comfortable, shower good. Heating old style and not double glazed so can hear road outside if on the front of hotel. Hope it can get better because looks like a lovely building layout and location
