“"Will definitely return"”
Excellent Hotel for cleanliness, friendliness and good value for money. The facilities were great and the hotel set in beautiful surroundings.
“Hotel of extremes”
We chose this hotel because of it's location - near Warwick, Stratford and good rail links to Birmingham...and it was great for this. We also wanted a hotel with a gym and pool...the pool is 17M...not too bad for a hotel pool but very shallow at one end so not possible to swim very properly in it. The gym was not huge but had very good facilities and equipment - one of the best hotel gyms we have used we felt. The surroundings of the hotel were amazing...quite stunning and away from it all...yet only 15 mins from the nearest town (Stratford or Warwick) The hotel itself was split into several sections...a very old Grand Walton Hall Section and a lot of newer more corporate looking buildings - we were in the latter. The room was very clean but also very small. NO storage space/drawers at all and a tiny hanging rail. No real room to sit other than on the bed. Breakfast was included and was a fairly standard buffet style...unremarkable but fine. The waiting staff were pleasant enough and helpful. Eating in the hotel was quite expensive (£8 for sandwich) and other eateries involved a drive to the nearest towns/villages. Depending on what you are looking for this could be it....but top of the notch luxury and comfort it was not.
“Barcelo Walton Hotel - room let our stay down”
We booked a double room, which was in a modern secure block, with the surrounding grounds being lovely. The breakfast was well catered, leisure centre well maintained, but as for our room, the floor was sinking around the bed, it dipped when being walked on and the ceiling covered in damp stains, the radiator was not working, so whilst we slept well (making use of the bed runner for warmth), for 4 star accommodation it was dissapointing. Lleaving me wondering how the star system is rated, on rooms or complex? I hope the hotel reads these reviews and takes note!
“Superb Hotel in Fabulous Grounds”
This hotel is of excellent quality throughout and is located in the most beautiful, tranquil and peaceful countryside setting. Our room, in one of the outbuildings, was modern, spacious, clean and comfortable. There is a lovely health spa (in the with price) and the staff everywhere were smart attentive and courteous. We will certainly go back again.
“Great place but eat out in the evening”
The hotel setting is very impressive, situated in acres of countryside with its own lake and river. We were booked into the hotel as opposed to the Hall and the hotel surrounds were quite new and modern. On arrival the receptionist was extremely helpful and when we discovered that the swimming pool and sauna were out of action and had been for several weeks they were very apologetic explaining that we should have been made aware. They offered an upgrade for 1 night to the hall, but as this would have meant moving we declined the offer and were offered a bottle of wine, which we agreed to take with dinner. The room was comfortable but not very impressive and I’m not sure it lived up to a 4* rating. There was no mini bar or hair dryer. The hanging space was in alcove rather than a wardrobe, This alcove also held the iron and ironing board, the safe, the tea making equipment and a small chest of drawers , making it very cramped. The free bottle of wine made up for an extremely over priced meal. I would not recommend anyone to have an evening meal at the hotel. We did have a very nice breakfast with a good selection of cereals, fresh and dried fruit as well as the usual cooked breakfast choice on the Saturday. Whilst there was a similar choice on the Sunday we arrived a little latter and the fresh fruit choice had all but gone. All in all I would go back and recommend it for the grounds and the friendly staff, but I would suggest you eat out in the evening.
“An only ok sort of hotel”
The location of this hotel is in beautiful countryside. Rooms are not connected to the main hotel so you have to go outside to get to the breakfast room. Our bed was extremely uncomfortable and the pillows, only one each, were passed it. Would not have been happy had we paid the full rate for this hotel but as it was a special rate it suited us just for one night.
“Painfully "adequate".”
Everything about our stay was...adequate. Very hard to pinpoint, there was just something missing. Rooms clean, but uninspiring. Breakfast satisfactory, but forgettable. Bar OK, but nothing to talk about. There was a general aura of a leisure centre about the place, inclusing the "live big screen sport" in the bar. The grounds are indeed stunning but don't rescue what is basically a significant disappointment. Honestly? Book a Premier Travel Inn - you'll never know the difference once through the door. This is a hotel that simply can't deliver what it promises for the price.
“Pleasant family stay”
Having read previous reviews the hotel exceeded my expectations. As a family we particularly enjoyed the swimming pool which was lovely and warm. The breakfasts were good and worth the short wait for a table. The rooms were clean and pleasant though not huge. We did not eat dinner at the hotel as a set menu only was on offer but The King's Head in nearby Wellesbourne served a good choice of pub food and had a friendly atmosphere. Overall , the hotel was very good value for money.
“Let down by kitchen”
Considering that the Walton Hotel is an inexpensive option compared to the adjacent Walton Hall, I was generally happy with the standard of accommodation and especially the excellent staff and service (there were one or two who were presumably trainees and a bit gauche, but that's not a problem). The only thing letting the hotel down is the design of the bar area, with its flat layout and drab carpet. It looks like a working men's club, and as many guests enter the hotel through it, a redesign would work wonders. But the main letdown was the food – there is a limited table d'hote menu, it's not particularly cheap, and the quality of cooking just isn't up to the prices – overboiled veg, underseasoned fish, unimaginative dishes etc. I expect better from Barcelo.
“Beautiful Surroundings”
This hotel is in a beautiful location, a little off the beaten path but definitely worth a visit. I would stay at this hotel again, next time I want to spend more than one night there!
