“Badly torn sofas abound!”

After a six hour drive we found our hotel, in a quiet location across the road from Walsall Football Stadium. Our 'first' room was a major disappointment - utilitarian, designed for easy cleaning and with a torn sofa. We asked for a change of room as we were overlooking the bins but, as our next room had a broken fire alarm we asked to be moved again. Our new room, like the first, had a badly torn sofa. We ate in the hotel as, despite scouting around in the car, we could not find anywhere else locally. The food was poor value for money and the service very slow as there was a coach party in and very few Staff were on duty. Our key card seldom worked on returning to our room and, on four separate occasions, we had to go down to Reception to have it rectified. A sticky, dirty mark on the floor beside the bed was there when we arrived - and was still there when we left. The kettle refused to boil unless you pressed down on the switch - any release of pressure and it stopped working. The soap dispenser beside the wash basin in the bathroom leaked for an entire day. The only good points of this hotel were the Manager - Tom - who looked exhausted due to his workload, and the breakfast - which was excellent. The hotel is clearly now used as a base for young families holidaying in the area and, too their credit, during our entire stay, the children were well behaved and posed no problems for others using the premises. The hotel is conveniently located for the railway station.

“Wallsall hotel recommended”

Our stay in this particular hotel was convenient, the staff were really friendly, and it was clean and comfortable. We have been here before and we would highly recommend this hotel.

“Very good hotel”

Large, clean and comfortable room. Nice walk in shower, comfortable bed and a settee to relax on. Heating was a little noisy but apart from that no complaints at all.

“Basic...but, clean and friendly”

The hotel was very clean and the staff were hospitable. We had trouble trying to figure out the heating system as the instructions on it were so small. Other than that, we have no complaints. The breakfast (included in the price) was excellent. We will certainly stay there again when we next visit the NEC.

“Poor cleanliness and dark bathroom with glass on floor =(”

Very pleased with the price and the location was ideal as we were going to a football match at the ground next to the hotel and also visiting Cadbury World. We also thought the breakfast was satisfactory. HOWEVER the room was not good at all. There was broken glass on our shower floor, which I handed in to reception. The bedside table was unclean and had chocolate crumbs on it and a Flake chocolate wrapper was sticking out from under the phone. On the first morning I discovered we had no soap in the shower at all! No dispenser, never mind soap! We also had only one light in the bathroom (should of been 2) and when I reported it I was promised it would be fixed. It was not repaired at all and in apology they offered us a change of rooms, we only had one night left so I declined the offer. The tissue box was also empty as was the sanitary bag box. My son slept in a fold out sofa bed, but this had very sharp edges and we both cut ourselves on it as we tried to get by it. There were only basic tv channels 1-5, all other channels had to be paid for. Never found the wifi advertised and had to use our own mobile vodafone internet access. On Sunday mornings there is a market held at the football ground so there may be a lot of noise to those staying at the hotel. Had to have black tea as the milk smelt bad and the maid had none to replace it with.

“Value for money”

The hotel was almost new and still squeaky-clean. The extensive all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast was also impressive, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, and all at an incredibly cheap price. We'll certainly go back whenever we need to stay in the Birmingham area again.

“Was not impressed”

We booked this hotel specifying we had an infant and a four year old child. We were given a room with a double bed and a pull out sofa bed which did not pull out and was actually ripped on both sides of the sofa where it was pulled out before. There was not an infant cot in the room nor was one offered. Since we booked this room for two nights, we told the front desk the sofa did not work and they did offer to move us. We declined and asked for extra linens for the sofa and were promised it would be there upon our return. Actually we had to ask four times and my husband stood at the desk while someone went and got it. They were seriously understaffed in this hotel and the service was not even average. The breakfast buffet I would have to say was the highlight of our stay.

Traveller's tip
This is a place to stay if you are not for the all frills experience and want to make the most of your money. If going to Drayton Manor, it is not a long journey on the M to the M42. Fill up on the breakfast buffet first.

“Excellent value for money”

Hotel was generally very good. Had dinner on Friday night which was good. Breakfast great. Staff very helpful and very friendly. Only small gripe would be that room smelled a bit smoky. Handy for Birmingham City Centre and looked like great market next door on sunday. Great value for money.
