“A very good alternative”
I have stayed several times at this Hotel and can fully recommend it. I am in Vienna frequently and use Expedia to choose my hotel. The rate frequently available for Hotel de France make it unbeatable.
“Price, location - and what I got for it - is right”
Don't expect a Burg like, turn-of-the-century jewel. It's a very nice hotel, lacks some of the modern amenities you would expect from a hotel that describes itself as grand. Some things can feel slightly dated. But - so what! What you get is a 5-10 min walk to much everything in Vienna's 1st district. Subway right next to it. The hotel is clean, rooms have high ceiling and very good beds, people are nice. You will not want to hang out in the lobby much, the offers aren't great. But you have Vienna right outside your door. Only nuisance: The €26 breakfast menu - to be paid extra. Really! Just walk to the historical Cafe Central 5 minutes away and enjoy there. Would go there again.
“Great value. Highly recommended.”
Fantastic location. The hotel isn't quite as opulent as they make it appear though. Rooms are pretty standard. The bathrooms have been nicely renovated since my last stay here almost 10 years ago. The girls at reception seemed a bit snooty although the manager was super nice when we spoke to him. Breakfast wasn't included in the price of the room though. I knew that it wasn't but Expedia should be a bit more clear about what is and isn't included in the price of the room. I think the buffet breakfast was 26 euros per person, which is a bit exorbitant. We just went down to Café Central which is only a 5-10 minute walk where you can get breakfast for anywhere from 5 to 12 euros. As stated in some of the other comments, the minibar is free, which is great. I was a bit skeptical about this claim but it's written right in their guest information brochure. Mine contained a couple of beers, water, some soft drinks and a small packet of peanuts, and it was refilled every morning. The flat rate Airport Driver taxi we took from the airport was 34 euros, which I arranged upon landing. Don't just go to the taxi stand when you arrive because they'll use the meter which could easily cost you 40+ euros, go to one of the taxi counters in the arrivals terminal and ask for a fixed rate to your destination. When we left we arranged to take the hotel's car which was a bit more at 39 euros, but the added convenience was worth the extra 5 euros.
“disappointed wit h the room”
The hotel lobby was nicely designed with a touch of modern decoration however the room had an older style to it and the mattress was pass it's time. We had friends staying at the same hotel and they had a newer refurbished room that was perfect. Unfortunately we were the unlucky ones and ended with rooms that need to be renovated.
“Wiener schnitzel!”
Comfortable place to stay at the fringe of the old city. A bit of a walk to the Cathedral. Good service by staff, specially the porters and valet. One night we were awakened by a fire alarm triggered by some overheating devices on the top of the hotel. Before we could climb down the stairs, a staff member told us the problem is under control and that we could get back into our rooms. Still, it was an unpleasant experience after a long day of walking around. Would probably stay there again unless I an find similar acommodation nearer to the attractions.
“Good Hotel”
The hotel is good. The rooms are large. I liked the neighborhood and services.
“Hotel very next to the city center”
Hotel is very next to the city center. Front desk not so helpful.
“Nice hotel in Viena”
The hotel is perfect for frequent travelers. It's a 5 star hotel, but looks more like a 4 star. Rooms are very small, but clean and confortable. The hotel is close to the citycenter, near underground and bus station. I recomend it for the travelers that use to stay 1-3 nights maximum and doesn't like big confortable rooms.
“Great location, clean and professional”
Great location. Right next to an under grand station. Clean and warm rooms.
“not 5 star”
Certainly not a five star hotel. The room was basic,no more luxorious then a Holiday Inn. Had to ask to have linesn changed.Asked for face cloths and was told there were none, nor was there any shampoo and or hair conditioner. Hotel dining was way too expensive for what you got. Bathroom was so small you could not turn around in it. We made the mistake of beleiving the marketing hype about Christmas in Vienna.EVERYTHING,including resturants closed at 1PM on 12/24.
