A lovely hotel with a nice garden

Posted 13-May-2015
Pros: The location . The staff . And it's look
Cons: It is in the process of being upgraded and when it is finished it will be a gem in Victoria's inner harbour
Location: The hotel is central for most of the amenities of the inner harbour lots to do and lots to see
The hotel has a quaintness about it and is in a prime position it is within walking distance of most of the places that make up Victoria's inner harbour the staff could not do enough to make our stay the most enjoyable holiday to date

excellent location

Posted 12-May-2015
Pros: The location. The ambiance,
Cons: Is excellent as it is.
Location: Location prime! visit parliament buildings, empress hotel, beacon hill park(beautiful), walk the harbor walkway to fisherman's wharf or downtown
This hotel while a little dated is bright and cheery and very clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is good . Includes cereals, cut fruit, fresh whole fruit, muffins, croissants, pastries, toast, toaster waffles, juice, coffee, tea.it is served in a bright, glass enclosed room facing the morning sun and looking out on the landscaped grounds. The hotel grounds are landscaped with paths and seating areas, It is located directly across the street from the harbor. It is very conveniently located close to the parliament buildings(one block) the empress hotel, and downtown. Also, fisherman's wharf. There are two restaurants in the complex consisting of two historic houses along with the hotel.. My stay of two weeks was very enjoyable. I am a senior and was able to walk everywhere from the hotel.

Renovations in the works

Posted 10-May-2015
Location: The beautiful Parliament building is close as it the Empress Hotel and Royal museum. More fun restaurants are a ways away across the harbor
This place is on a quiet street with underground parking and comfortable bed. The rest is sad. There was paint peeling off the ceiling in a couple of places, torn curtains, noisy refrigerator and lots of other items that needed to be updated. When we commented to the front desk on check out they said oh yes they are re-doing all their rooms. The price was not that cheap for the condition of the property. Wish we would have known.

noisy

Posted 19-Apr-2015
Pros: The staff were great, bed comfortable, price right.
Cons: Hotel restaurant could be open for lunch instead of just dinner with lower prices.
Location: The ferry was within walking distance, tour buses, airport shuttle all close. Museums, shopping and restaurants close.
The hotel was close to interesting destinations, the harbour, inner Victoria, however, the noise level of occupants was loud. We could hear arguments, plumbing, stomping on upper floor.

Nice hotel close to many other things to do.

Posted 14-Apr-2015
The hotel is a beautiful building and looks old, which adds to it's character. I liked that it was very accessible to many other businesses, so we were able to walk to where ever we wanted to go, that was very convenient. Parking on site was easy to get too and safe, if you use the underground parking area. We parked outside in the parking lot and we felt just as safe. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts for each of the days we were there. There was a good variety of food to choose from and they were very tasty. I liked that I could have hot porridge. The staff were very kind, and helpful. The rooms were clean and the beds were firm, no lumps or sagging beds for us. We did find the pillows to be too small and either flat or lumpy. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay. There weren't the frills as some other places may have, but we didn't need them. I liked it because it was clean, inviting and comfortable. The big chairs by the fireplace were a cozy place to read. Thanks for a nice clean place for us to stay.

Older Property, Fabulous Visit

Posted 13-Apr-2015
Pros: Good location, nice breakfast, terrific WiFi. Good service at front desk and in pub/restaurant.
Cons: Change to self service coffee with breakfast. Being served was nice but when it was busy the waitperson assigned had trouble keeping up.
Location: All Inner Harbor attractions within 10 minute walk: Parliment, Royal BC Museum, Fairmont Empress, etc. Ferry to Port Angeles is across the street.
We stayed two nights on a leisure trip, and our expectations were exceeded. Huntingdon Manor is an older property made up of several buildings together on the same plot. We stayed in the main hotel on the second floor. The room was clean, though the carpets and drapes were a bit dark and perhaps faded. There was a bit of visible touch up work in the bathroom but everything worked and was clean. We had a partial view of the Inner Harbor (we could see seaplanes moored to the wharf across the water) and on our second morning a gull landed on the railing of our balcony-- could be a plus or a minus depending on your inclination. My wife is a bird nut so it was OK for us. We had free parking, breakfast, and WiFi. Parking was a breeze, there is an underground lot accessed by key card and a side lot above ground, plus fairly easy street parking if you prefer. From what I was told the free breakfast was new for HM. It was served in the hotel building's restaurant and was nice, with biscuits, chocolate croissants, toaster waffles, and cereal- a bit lean on fruit but still terrific for a free breakfast. The free WiFi was the best we found on the trip,we were even able to use oovoo to place a video call home. The location on the inner harbor, and right by the ferry terminal, is terrific. In one morning we hit four major area attractions and were never more than a ten minute walk from the hotel. HM was a good value for our trip.

Good hotel for price

Posted 09-Apr-2015
The hotel is okay, it's pretty old and they were doing renovations while we were there RIGHT outside of our room (which we didn't know before hand) so we couldn't really be at the hotel during the day. They did accommodate our pet though which is nice. The best thing about the hotel is the staff who are VERY friendly and accommodating and helped us with anything we needed.

Charming

Posted 06-Apr-2015
Pros: Great location and staff, nicely landscaped
Cons: The manor could use a revamp in the older room I stayed in the first nite, but it was very clean.
Location: Great location across from the Inner Harbour with lots to see and do.
The first night I stayed in the Huntingdon Manor but the room faced a carpet cleaning truck in use, so the following day I was moved to the Gatsby Manor which was just my cup of tea. Its an older building full of charm and my room overlooked the Inner Harbour and had a little balcony. The properties share a dining area and provide free breakfast each morning, which was well put out and with a nice view of the Inner Harbour across the street. I cannot say enough about the front desk staff - they were quite helpful, friendly and really made me feel welcome.
