Great location

Posted 01-Jul-2015
This is our second stay at HGP. As before the location is perfect for walking distance to most everything in the heart of the harbour. The beds are comfy and rooms are nice and quiet. The hotel is starting to show its age in some areas and we were disappointed not to have microwave in the room. The food in the restaurant was amazing and it would have been nice to warm up the left overs! The hotel is not overly kid friendly as we were told the pool is usually adult only, only opening up to Kids in the summer months. We travelled with our 6 year old who was thankful to get to enjoy it. Also a special shout out and thanks to Joe and his little ducks! 😊

We loved coming back to see Victoria better. We had a wonderful time. Only complaint is hotel should offer free breakfast. $40.00 a day is alittle pricey

Pros: Pool,staff
Cons: Room cleaning.
Location: Excellent location.
Enjoyed our stay. Staff very helpful. Nice pool, could be a little warmer though. Room cleaning needs to be looked at. Half empty beer bottle found sitting on floor by bed. Overall. A nice stay.

window into a wonderful harbour city

Posted 25-Jun-2015
Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
Location: Decent location. So much Victoria has to offer. It is a lovely city. Small but so grand. Preserve that history, Victoria. You are a precious gem.
This was a last minute booking. We are residents of Victoria and needed to catch a 6 am ferry to Washington State. We live 30 minutes from the ferry terminal. Rather than getting up early we decided to splurge and stay at the hotel across the street from the ferry terminal. Not only convenient for that purpose but some unexpected delights. Front desk staff meeting us enabled us to get the accommodation we needed to be comfortable, even though the website didn't permit special requests. Restaurant was excellent, though hostess and management staff might benefit from taking a break to pause and listen to what the customer really wants (server was excellent). Gym facilities were top notch and that's important to me. Best of all is split between 3 things: the pool (the best pool view anywhere), the location or should i say balcony view (could sit for hours and just watch) and the room-keeping staff. I'm a hotel snob and have travelled the world. The top 3 items i just mentioned were well worth paying the extra $200/night to save one from an early morning wakeup. I'll be back the next time i need to catch an early morning ferry to the US. Hotels need to pay attention to details to make a truly great experience: don't skimp on bathroom towels, don't go cheap on toilet paper or toiletries, listen carefully to things we won't express (e.g - breakfast service in restaurants ending at 11 am sharp --why? i won't complain but breakfast is what i really wanted at 11:23, not lunch)

Great Location and Unique Property

Posted 22-Jun-2015
Pros: Location is excellent. The duck pond is a unique feature and great for kids.
Cons: Concierge type services should not be performed at the front desk when there is a line waiting to check in. Separate concierge would be better.
Location: On the South side of the Inner Harbour, beside Parliament buildings. Near Royal BC Museum, Empress Hotel, Boat and Bus Tour pick up sites.
I was travelling with my Mother and my 6 year old twin boys for a weekend holiday. My initial impression was very positive as the location of the property is ideal for sight seeing in Victoria on foot. The check-in process was not very efficient, however the desk staff was aware and gave my boys a childrens' package with the signature rubber ducks. This was a nice touch. During the week they offer a childrens' duck program for the pond that fronts the property. There are numerous ducklings in the ponds which were entertaining for my boys to watch. The property itself has large, well appointed rooms. The bathtub is full sized (not a low edged one). The balconies off the rooms provide a variety of great views, towards the Inner Harbour or the Parliament buildings. The room was kept very well but we did not notice some items under the bed that had not been removed from a previous stay - most people wouldn't look under the beds - we were hunting for one of the boys' toys. The hotel was helpful arranging transport back to the airport and the bell desk was excellent in assisting my mother, getting her water to help take a pill.

nice hotel, conveniently located, great view.

Posted 19-Jun-2015
the hotel is right across the street from the Port Angeles ferry, so we were checked in within 15 minutes of disembarking. the view was very nice, the amenities met all of our needs, and the staff were very helpful and courteous. We were able to store luggage the following morning after check out, which was also a very simple and good experience. it was a great stay in Victoria!
