We celebrated our 32nd anniversary at The Empress, one of many visits throughout the years. We've had indulgent stays in luxurious rooms as well as budget stays with young children on roll-away beds. We've stayed when the hotel was growing a bit tatty with age, and after a major updating. What remains the same is the professionalism of the staff. We've always been treated with warm hospitality by every employee, no matter what we're wearing or which room we're staying in. That's a reflection of excellent management, from mission and policy to staff hiring and training.
The great central location, interesting history well-displayed, wonderful restaurants and beautiful public areas all add to the lovely experience of being well cared for at The Empress.
We were only there for 1 night but the hotel had everything we needed for the family (pool, gym, close to downtown, etc.). The staff were very friendly and accommodating. A very pleasant experience all-round.
Staff was friendly, room was clean, it was a lot quieter than expected, super close to the save on foods memorial arena.. we were in town for a concert there and probably "could have" walked had it not been so cold ;)
we were a little disappointed with the pub atmosphere, it is nice and the food is decent, but it wasn't what we were expecting.. it was very bright, service was ok, and it allows minors in with and adult accompanying- felt more "cafeteria-y" than a pub...still decent
Loved the complimentary breakfast buffet.. I am a sucker for a waffle!!
overall.. would stay here again!
The staff is excellent. The location was conveniently close to downtown and within a few minutes drive of the main tourist area. The room was comfortable and I had no negative experiences. I would recommend this hotel.

Loved the customer service! All staff were so friendly. One of them opened the elevator for me when I had my hands full and that was awesome. Loved being able to check out late as well leave the car and luggage after check out while we wandered around. Awesome!!!
We really enjoyed the hotel. It was very clean and comfortable with friendly service. I sprang for the "deluxe" room with the fancy shower and it was totally worth it. Our room had a nice little seating area, a desk, a fridge, and a coffee pot. That's plenty to make me feel at home.
We had dinner in the pub downstairs, Garrick's Head Pub. It was delicious and I'd highly recommend the burger. I cannot remember having better french fries, either.
