From the moment we stepped from the taxi we knew we were in for a delightful experience. Attention to detail would capture everything about this hotel. Professional but friendly hotel staff catered to our every need and placed rose pedals on our pillows with the turn-down service. Breakfast buffet included everything from roast duck to sushi. not to forget all the African fruits and usual breakfast food. Beds were comfortable. The hotel connects directly to a 3 floor upscale shopping mall with banks, ATMs and currency exchange.

The Cape Grace should be called the Cape Gracious. Well located, clean, well designed and furnished. Wonderful antiques all over. Good restaurant and bar. The bar, presided over by the irrepressible Happy should be called "The Happy Zone." The most engaging, most competent, friendliest staff imaginable. They really go out of their way to make you feel at home.
"VG hotel trying to become 5 star; they try harder!"
We had a great time; walked to all kinds of attractions, shopping, pubs and dining. Felt very safe and secure at all times. The location of the hotel is perfect. Easy walks to everything on the waterfront.
My wife and I visited Cape Town for 4 days at the end of our holiday in Zimbabwe, Botswana and and South Africa. The Commodore is a very comfortable hotel to stay in, a short walk to all the restaurants, shopping and activities in the waterfront The staff are pleasant and very helpful. At our request we were given a 4th floor room with a balcony facing the Table Mountain which made our stay all the more memorable. The buffet breakfast with its omelette station which was included in the tariff was more than adequate.
The staff was wonderful and helpful. The room was comfortable, clean and everything we expected. Location was Ideal!!! A short walk from the waterfront area.
We were not in love with the restaurant. Breakfast was complimentary and it was wonderful. The dinner menu was fancy, heavy and more than we wanted. When we wanted something lighter for dinner like a salad or sandwich we had to go out for that. Lucky that the waterfront area had so many great places to choose.
When we arrived at the waterfront residence the security people could not figure out how to reach the correct rental person for the keys to the 1 bedroom condo. First, realize it is not a hotel but more of condos to rent. Second, the info provided on our paperwork from Expedia offered no indication of how to "checking". It took 1 hour for the security to track down the right rental firm to being us the keys. We called the number listed 5tijes and just got voice mail. The keys he brought did not work for the lower entrance. It was ver frustrating. If not for the beautiful condo and location once we finally got in we would have cancelled the whole thing. Please beware of this issue prior to booking.

"Excellent self-catering option in V&A Waterfront"
Lawhill is an outstanding choice for self-catered stays in the V&A waterfront area of Capetown. There are lots of shops, restaurants and other interesting places within easy walking distance of the hotel. There is a grocery in the bottom floor of the large mall which makes grocery fetching convenient (although it is a bit of a walk, if you plan to buy a large amount of groceries bring something to carry them in). Quiet suites create a nice respite from the city life. There is free easy parking at the unit if you've rented a car.
