“Very good hotel excellent location”

Location is excellent. Breakfast is good, not great. Rooms are very clean and if you can ask for the ones with the view on the canal. . Location is exceptional tough. It's near of everything. Don't miss the restaurant Gallo d'Oro nearby. Only one negative thing : Don't forget to pay the room taxes before leaving, They will look at you as if you were a thief.

“Great location and a very good hotel”

Located right next to rialto and San Marcos. Upscale hotel with a good full breakfast at their connect sister hiotel (Hotel Bonvecchiatia). Staff was helpfull. It is in a small street and it has a taxi port. However if you are taking the bus get down at the Rialto stop and it's just a 2 minutes walk without taking any bridges.

“Will definitely go back!”

Venice is lovely, would highly recommend the Carnivale season to go, though thte weather is rather unpredictable. March - wind, snow, hail but also sun! Be careful when choosing your restaurants as some are very pricey with disappointing food. The more expensive wine is not necessarily the best, so choose carefully. The further away from St Marks Sq you are the cheaper the food. If you have a coffee in St Marks Sq they will charge you extra for sitting outside. Restaurants tend to close around 10.30pm and 11pm. So worth remembering to head out to dinner earlier rather than later. Check your bill at the end of the dinner as well as we found 'extras' added on that we did not have. Also, all restaurants charge you for the bread, and automaticaly put on a 12% service charge. Definitely try the hot chocolate... it is addictive! Would recommend getting a water bus from the airport to your resort/area. Price is 13euros for a single, or you can go for a return ticket for 25euros. Go up the Tower in St Marks Sq for fantastic views. Gondola's are very expensive. They start at 80euros for 20mins, but you can fit 5/6 people in if you can find someone to share with. We walked everywhere, no need for the water taxi's or the vaporetto's. You can get a 50cents tragetto which is a bigger gondola type vessel if you don't want to pay for the real thing. It'll just take you from one side of the grand canal to the other.

Area recommendations
Would recommend trying to state in San Marco or San Polo. This is the hub of the activity. Restaurants tend to close around 10.30pm and 11pm so there is no evening noise other than the odd bar and people walking down streets.

“Nice upscale hotel”

Overall, it was quite good, I would recommend this hotel. Pros: - Once we found it, location was very convenient to everywhere. - Just far enough away from the main square to not be too crowded. - Breakfast was good - Restaurant dinner was very good but pricey - Nicely renovated hotel and rooms Cons: - Was hard to find the first time - Bathroom was cramped, shower was right next to the toilet separated only by a curtain. - Not all the staff knew English, but found someone to assist us, so we had no problems.

“Return to Palace Bonvecchiati”

We were pleased to return to the Palace Bonvecchiati after great stays in the past. The quality of the staff and the modern elegance of the building had not changed and our upgrade to a junior suite was very welcome. The location is second to none - midway between Piazza San Marco & the Rialto Bridge and with good access to the Castello sestiere (district). Surrounded by good restaurants & nice little bar/caffes, you are immersed in the life of Venice. It's a shame the hotel bar closed at 11.00, despite the room pack saying it closes at 12.00 - it should have been a great place for a nightcap. The major downside of this visit was the loss of the in-house breakfast room! In the past breakfast was served in the modern dining room of the Palace Bonvecchiati but now you follow a circuitous internal route to eat in the dining room of the adjacent, Edwardian, Hotel Bonvecchiati. Food is good, service is fine, but if I'd wanted Edwardian charm I'd have booked into the Hotel not the modern Palace. What has happened to the former breakfast room in the Palace Bonvecchiati, you might ask?! It has become a rather sterile and charmless room with some seating and an internet desk - but don't imagine it's any form of lounge. The internet desk facing into the room gives the impression of being watched by an intrusive concierge! Bring back the breakfast room!! Despite my criticism, our stay was charming & relaxing. Please do try it - and the breakfast really is good!

Area recommendations
Anywhere in Venice is better than just about anywhere else in the world! Any hotel staff will direct you to the great sights - you'll love them. Finally, learn a few phrases of Italian. It's not just respectful, it shows you value the Venetian way of life. Don't worry that you'll get involved in a deep & meaningful conversation, you'll invariably be replied to in perfect English! Enjoy!
Getting around
But do yourselves a favour and get away from the tourist centres of Piazza San Marco & the Rialto. Walk away into the narrow alley ways of Castello; cross the Grand Canal and explore the Dorsoduro, Santa Croce & San Polo sestiere (districts). You'll find beautiful architecture, great art and wonderful food & drink. Our best advice to those who want to discover and fall in love with Venice is to walk & walk & walk and be prepared to get lost - frequently! But fear not, the yellow wall signs will always direct you back in the general direction of the main centres. We've walked all over the main islands through main road & back alleys and we've never felt threatened or worried. It is one of the safest cities you'll ever visit.
Dining
Dining in Venice can be hit & miss but you can still find some very good places to eat. In San Marco we enjoy the Ristorante Do Forno & the Ristorante Antica Carbonera at the upper end of the market; for value, we enjoy the Number 1, just behind the church of San Zulian. Best value we've found is the Bar Foscarini in Dorsoduro right at the foot of the Accademia Bridge. A small, atmospheric & beautiful caffe with fresh sandwiches (tramezzini), pizzas & salads; filled with gondeliers and other local people popping in for a coffee or a campari. Also try some of the back street Bacari - small bars that served traditional food & wine in small prtions at tiny prices (Bacaro Fiore just off Campo San Stephano in San Marco; another, whose name I don't know, in the Riva Ca' d'Oro just off the Strada Nova in Canerregio is as dark & atmospheric as a fil-noire set!).

“Excellent hotel”

Great hotel in terms of location...couldnt be closer to the canals, St Marks Sq and the shops. hotel very clean and contemporary and rooms were perfect. the only slightly disappointing area was that we tried to book the spa for our final morning only to find out we could only use it from 1pm onwards but apart from that everything was great. would definatly recommend to couple, families or singles

“Great hotel”

Very conveniently located hotel. Only 5 minutes walk form Rialto and St Mark's. Well furnished and good design of hotel room. Helpful staff. Buffet breakfast was of a good standard in pleasant surroundings

What to pack
Might have been a good idea to have taken wellingtons. During acqua alta, would have had more flexibility in walking down certain routes if had taken waterproof footwear. St Mark's itself is provided with raised walkways but these restrict the way you can cross the square

“Stylish and Great Value”

An excellent hotel, stylish and modern, in a fantastic location. Room was large and impressive. Staff were sincere and attentive - especially helpful when it came to arranging a restaurant reservation and providing directions to out-of-the-way locations. Would certainly recommend this hotel, a excellent find and very good value for Venice.

“An amazing hotel with dedicated staff accustomed to ensuring quality customer service”

We arrived and were immediately impressed with the service of the staff, the terrific proximity of the hotel to san marco square and also the quality of the establishment. The staff couldnt do enough to ensure that we were happy at all times. The breakfast was amazing. We were blown away with the customer service at this hotel. They simply couldnt do enough to ensure that our stay was pleasant. We did have some problems accessing the wifi in the room which was handled by an outside service. Having said that, every single one of the staff went out of their way to ensure that we got it working. They were amazing. When next in venice - we only have one choice and that is to stay at Palace Bonvecchiati. Outstanding customer service!
