“Keep looking”

Cornball classy. My grandmother would dig this place, but for me? No way. I was told to return my key -- which was attached to a 2" in diameter, 1 1/2 lb. brass 'bell' -- to the front desk whenever I left the hotel and pick it up when I returned! I said, 'make me' and they dropped the issue. Is is just me or is anyone else getting a little tired of these forced 'bed linen turn down' reminder notes? And what about a coffee machine? Housekeeping service fair to poor.

“One of better hotels in Venice”

Consierge and desk staff very friendly. Room service excellent. Bar not very exciting and lobby not very comfortable but did not spend much time in lobby. Breakfast insanely expensive. No reason it should not be part of room rate given price of room.

“Charming Venice”

The hotel is extremely well-located. We arrived at about 11PM, but were too excited just to go to sleep, so we walked just around the corner to hear the midnight bells at San Marco Square. While the room was furnished beautifully, with lovely hanging Venetian glass lamps, gold trimmed full length mirror closets, and a huge bathroom, our one disappointment was with the single window - stained glass - that overlooked an alley and trash. Other than that, we felt like a king and queen. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There was a gondola stand right outside the front entrance. Everything was close by. We splurged one morning on the hotel's extravagant breakfast buffet - as much for the experience of dining in such a beautiful room than the breakfast spread that included champagne and smoked salmon. Really magical experience overall and I would definitely recommend it and stay there again. Tip: Because we arrived so late, we opted for a very expensive ground transportation combination from the airport that included a private car taxi followed by a private water taxi. Our hotel was so close to the airport water taxi stand at San Marco Sq that we chose that return at 1/10 the cost.

Area recommendations
This is a fabulous walking city that offers a new flavor and changes each time you cross a bridge. We stayed near San Marco Sq which was easy to navigate around, but rather difficult to find reasonably priced breakfast restaurants. I only felt uncomfortable once or twice in less touristed areas, but the neighborhoods change quickly and were all interesting.

“PROBABLY THE BEST HOTEL IN VENICE!!!”

From the minute we got there to when we left we had an amazing time - the hotel is right on St Marks Square and in the hub of everything Venice. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We went to Venice to relax and we were certainly in the right place for that. Although the drinks are expensive at the hotel they are anywhere in St Marks Square so no difference there. We went in November and the whole area floods upto about 20cm so if you can pack a pair of wellies it is a good idea or they do sell them in every other shop. The restaurants arounf St Marks vary in price - check the menu before sitting down You absolutely must visit da Peiero Mauro caffetteria open every day from 6.30 am to 2.00 am - its just up a few side streets and is a tiny little place with the friendliest bar staff in Venice (unfortunately I did find the venetians customer service skills a little lacking!!) But all in all a fantastic time and can't recommend the hotel more highly

Area recommendations
St Marks Square is an absolute must but do go on one of the tours and find out about the area the other side of Rialto Bridge called Ghetto but it isn't a "ghetto" it is just a less commercialised part of Venice where restaurants are more cafe and a bit cheaper for a snack
Getting around
Walk as much as you can and play the game of not getting to a dead end!!
What to pack
In November - wellies!!
Must see
The St Marks Square attractions - especially Doges Palace
Shopping
Look in the windows of Chanel, Gucci Valentino but up towards Rialto Bridge leather boots and bags etc get a bit cheaper and there are some superperb independent shops

“Not impressed”

Not impressed with the service one bit. For a supposed 5 star hotel the service was poor - arrogant and lacking substance. I have stayed at better 3 star places with nicer, friendlier or more willing to help staff. Be careful as they wont tell you whether your room includes breakfast and when you get the bill you will realise that you have paid 40+ Euro's per person per day for a bowl of cereal....

San Marco, most everytyhing to see is convenient from there, although a bit crowded and touristy it still seemed to be the best location, all the better shopping was near the Luna and the better hotels were nearby.

“Great”

Location was great. Hotel was nice, luxurious. The only problem I had was upon arrival by boat taxi to hotel entrance at 12 noon there was no one there to carry the bags. No porter nothing. All in all, I recommend the hotel.

“Your contact with fascinating Venice begins at the hotel”

The Baglioni is as Venitian as an hotel can get. Just getting into the hotel by the water-taxy entrance with the decorated poles poking out of the canal and the flower boxes, is fascinating. Inside, the decoration, the friendliness of the staff in general and the concierges in particular, make your stay meet your expectations.

“A must stay in Venice”

A must stay in Venice

Area recommendations
while in venice, go to the small cafe shop, D'epocca. (follow the signs for the Rialto) Atmosphere is wonderful and all the locals stop here for their morning coffees..
Getting around
Defiitely take the vaporettos. Make sure you ask for the most up to date schedule as no one in Itlay seems to offer any information unless you ask the right question.
Must see
Walk to the Arsenale area which is away form the tourist areas , quieter and very Venetian.

San Marco, Venice, Italy: San Marco (St Mark’s) is quintessential visitors’ Venice. The Piazza San Marco, famous for its pigeons, campanile, basilica, Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) and expensive cafes, is unmissable. The waterfront views are legendary and more gondolas depart from here than anywhere else in the city. In season the Piazza teems with day trippers though just a block or two away streets are quiet and offer more museums and palaces to explore.
