“Is there a better a better Hotel In Venice at The price?”

First time in Venice, found the Hotel extremely well sited and easy to access by water taxi. The concierges were extremely helpful and understanding. Breakfast was very comprehensive, in a nice location and the ouside restruant was ideal to have dinner in as it provided a nice shaded area away from the hot evening sun. The room was clean and pleasant if a bit on the small side - not really a problem. If we ever go back to Venice, I would certainly go back to this hotel and will recommend it to my friends.

Area recommendations
The area where The Hotel Saturnia and International is situated contains many shops, cafes and restruants and is near St Marks Square and the water front. A nice area to discover as you walk around, down the many narrow streeets and over the many canals. Nearbye is The Grand Canal and a must for any visitor is a guided boat trip along the canal to savour the history of Venice.
When to go
Found it very hot and humid at the end of May, maybe March-April time would just be that touch cooler.
Getting around
Must experience the water taxis - Vaparrettos, wil all the associated pleasure of being on the water and meeting local;s and many visitors as you travel from place to place.
Must see
St Marks Square at dusk to sample the atmosphere, music and restruants.

“A well run hotel in an excellent location.”

The Hotel Saturnia & International offers professional service in a building that is both well maintained and full of character. We enjoyed a room at the back of the hotel that overlooked a small canal and featured beams and a chandalier. We had chosen an upgrade on the basic room and were pleased with the space available, the good sized bed and the well equipped bathroom. Our one reservation was that the floorboards creaked a little every time we moved around in the room, but in a building of that age and construction I imagine that can't be helped. Breakfast was available between 7 and 10 am and was self-service from a well stocked buffet which included fresh rolls, fresh fruit, preserves, cheese and ham, etc. plus a choice of cereals. Tea and coffee was served at the table by attentive staff. The restaurant attached to the hotel is La Caravella. Whilst it can be expensive, it offers good food and service with a wine list that starts at reasonable prices but provides plenty of choice for those who wish to spend more. During the winter months afternoon tea and biscuits are provided to hotel guests. The hotel is in an ideal location on a broad pavement with shop windows offering designer brands on the short walk between the hotel and St Marks Square. In the other direction the Ponte dell Accademia (leading to the Accademia gallery) is only a ten minute walk away and provides unrivalled views out along the grand canal.

Area recommendations
Of course St Marks Square must top the list of "must sees" and is a short walk from the hotel. In the area around the square you can visit: 1) The campanile (bell tower) with lift to the top. Wonderful views in every direction show what an unspoilt city Venice is. 2) St Marks Basilica with a walkway overlooking the square at a lower level than the bell tower but still affording good views. Photography is not allowed inside the Basilica. 3) The Palazzo Ducal or Doges Palace which may be worth the admission price if only to walk over the Bridge of Sighs. Again cameras are not allowed inside the rooms of the palace. The Bridge of Sighs itself is not currently at its best as hoardings cover the walls on each side. Only the centre section can be viewed from outside. Leaving St Marks Square a 10 or 15 minute walk to the north will take you to the Rialto Bridge. This is a scenic area where gondolas and gondoliers add to the picturesque architecture to provide archetypal Venice views. A separate walk to the west from St Marks Square will take you to the Ponte dell Accademia. This is the longest bridge over the Grand Canal and the view out to the mouth of the canal is splendid. Over the bridge is the Accademia gallery which includes many impressive paintings for a reasonable admission fee. Other sights include the churches of Venice, some of which home musical exhibitions, and of course the many small canals and bridges.
Getting around
Once in Venice on foot is the easiest option. Some visitors enjoy making sense of the system of water buses but we didn't have time to work it all out, buy tickets etc. On the other hand we did make the transfer from the airport to Venice by shared water taxi. We presented our vouchers (purchased from Expedia and printed at home) to the agent at the airport and were given a map identifying our landing stage and hotel location and told to wait for about 20 minutes. The actual wait was at least double that but there was seating. Eventually we (a party of around 10 by now) were escorted on a walk of about 10 minutes to the jetties where our boat awaited. The ride can be bumpy in places and it's difficult to follow exactly where you are en-route but the driver will make sure you are dropped off at the nearest jetty to your hotel and will lift your case from the boat. Finding the hotel is your responsibility but should not be too difficult. The return trip was similar and in our case the company organising the water taxi sent a fax to us at the hotel confirming time and location for the pick-up.
Dining
There is no cheap dining experience in Venice. Be prepared to pay £30-£50 per couple for two courses and a drink in the evening. Some restaurants are considerably more expensive. Having said that we found the food to be tasty and well presented wherever we ate and had no trouble getting a table (in February).

“Great location!”

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Saturnia September 2010 for our 10th anniversary. It's a fairly easy walk from the vaporetto stop and well located in the midst of the upscale shopping area and Venice sightseeing locations. The staff was helpful when asked but not overly so. Be aware that when you stay out after midnight as we did one night, the hotel locks the doors and you have to ring to get in. Luckily for us, a housecleaning person was in the front lobby when we did so and we were let in immediately. Our room was clean but a bit spare in the decor and as I think most Venice hotels are, a bit musty smelling from the age of the buildings and being surrounded by water and having flooded in the past. The hotel's restaurant is very accomodating and allowed us to purchase wine from their bar area to take to our room after having opened it for us. The food at the complimentary breakfast was very good, especially the fresh fruit but the coffee unfortunately was dismal. Overall, I would definitely recommend a stay here when visiting Venice.

“Plenty of character”

Really enjoyed our stay, friendly, efficient, yet characterful - these don't always go together! Excellent breakfast for an Italian hotel. Very keen to sign you up fopr the organised trip to the Murano glassworks (best avoided - it's a bit of a hard sell) and the evening gondola trip with singing, accordians etc - aghhh! We politely declined these. Only downside - mosquitos!!! Not the hotels fault - we like to open the window.

Area recommendations
Anywhere really - it's not that big.
Getting there
Tried easyJet - no problems at all.
