“great location but bad lighting”
hotel location is excellent. staff are helpful and pleasant. the lobby is dark and probably typical of venice hotels in its traditional and over the top decor. Unfortunately, the rooms are old fashioned and very very dark with no good lighting. impossible to pack my bag... couldn't see a thing.. could not read in bed as the lighting in this room is so bad...very small window did not provide much natural light either. the bathroom is OK. but had to plug my hairdryer into hall power point as bathroom one did not work properly. would not stay here again.
“The best place in Venice”
I would go back anytime.
“Mixed feelings”
The service at the hotel was wonderful, our room large and comfortable and very clean. The hotel shows its age, though, and needs some updating. The hotel hallways are in great need of renovation; the hallways are dark, the rugs extremely worn and threadbare. Wifi is not available in the rooms.
“Location and Quality”
A first class hotel with a 'boutique hotel' character overlooking the lagoon literally 5 mins from St Marks Square. Everything was excellent. Breakfast in the beautiful garden particularly memorable, as was the complimentary water taxi to Murano. One word of caution, book before you arrive if you want the Michelin starred restaurant. We missed out on that treat.
“Venice at its Best”
Hotel staff were brilliant and answered all questions we had, as well as organising a free trip. Rooms very well kept and very comfortable. Transport could not have been easier and it was right in the middle of the tourist area. We loved it!
“Wonderful experience!”
We had a fantastic stay at the Metropole in July - we literally stepped out of the water taxi and into the hotel lobby to be greeted by a very friendly porter who quickly took control of our luggage! Check in was very smooth - and we were escorted to a beautiful room overlooking the grand canal! King size bed, two easy chairs - a fridge which was fantastic as my husband is a diabetic and needed to stor insulin! Great bathroom - quality bath products and lovely fluffy towels! Room was air-conditioned so we could escape the summer heat in the evening! Highly recommend you have a meal - 2 Michelin Stars - spaghetti best we've ever tasted!! Good breakfast with plenty of variety though quite expensive with the Aussie exchange rate. Garden restaurant a lovely escape from the crowds! Can walk to everywhere very quickly - would definitely return!
“Good Hotel in Excellent Location”
I loved the lobby and restaurant. Very beautiful. The room was more like a 3 star hotel. Bed wasn't very comfortable and was not nearly as beautiful as you would expect from the lobby area.
“Back in a Heart Beat”
We were six people and all have the same opinion. The Hotel Metropole was beyond expectations, starting from them picking us up at the airport, to the water taxi ride and checking us in. Enzo was the best. He communicated with me during the months previous to our trip. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Even the breakfast buffet was fantastic, something for everyone. Would and have recommended them. Hope to be back again. A definite 5 Star in our opinion
“Good Value for Money”
Excellent hotel service and friendly staff. Worth noting that the hotel category is not 5 star; but, actually a 4-star. It is a " Preferred Boutique" hotel with lots of history and original features. It has a lovely garden at the back and has a good atmosphere. It has 2-star Michelin Restaurant and it was fully booked during our stay. Certainly a hotel that I would always recommend.
“We would definitely stay again.”
The hotel is charming, the rooms large and comfortable. The theme of the hotel is 19th Century, but with all the modern conveniences. It's close enough to St. Mark's Square to be accessible to everything, but far enough to not be crowded and noisy. There are vaporetto stops nearby and the canal right at your doorstop.

San Marco, Venice, Italy: San Marco (St Marks) is quintessential visitors Venice. The Piazza San Marco, famous for its pigeons, campanile, basilica, Palazzo Ducale (Doges Palace) and expensive cafes, is unmissable. The waterfront views are legendary and more gondolas depart from here than anywhere else in the city. In season the Piazza teems with day trippers though just a block or two away streets are quiet and offer more museums and palaces to explore.
