“Locanada Ovidus Venice”
Had a fantastic time, this hotel is in a great location, has fantastic views to the Rialto Bridge and the grand canal, the breakfast was fine, the staff were friendly and helpful especially the lady on duty during the day. Would recommend and stay there again definitely.
“Great authentic italian hotel - very helpful staff!!”
Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Ovidius and we loved it!!! we arrived around 11.30pm. From the outside the hotel doesn't look very much, but don't be disheartened as once inside the hotel is full of italian charm and personality. The staff were so friendly and helpful. From drawing maps or booking restaurants, nothing was too much trouble. The location of the hotel is its best selling point. Over looking the grand canal and 30 seconds from the Rialto bridge. We found it such a luxury to be able to return to our hotel room throughout the day (usually to drop off shopping bags!) and just take 10 minutes out of the hustle and bustle. Room was cleaned immaculately daily and the air conditioning was a life saver (* one note they may wish to invest in a shower curtain!!!) Check out is 11am on day of departure, however they kindly stored our cases til 7pm that night as we weren't flying until late. Really a lovely hotel, we would definately recommend it!!
“Not bad considering the price of everything else in Venice”
Stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Locanda Ovidius in September 2011. The location is superb, the Alilaguna waterbus stop from the airport is just on the opposite side of the Grand Canal and it's a 5 min walk over the Rialto Bridge (you might have to push your way through a few tourists but they soon move if you're carrying a large suitcase). The reception is next door and the staff are very friendly and make every effort for you. There is a balcony at the front of the hotel where you can sit and watch life pass by on the Grand Canal and look at the Rialto Bridge. The room is really clean and the bed was comfy however it is a bit shabby and the shower could have done with a curtain to keep water in but it did the job. Compared with the prices of other hotels and for it's location you couldn't fault this place. Breakfast is a continental affair which is ok, nothing special but set you up for the day. The location is so central that it's really easy to get about and explore all the main districts. St Mark's Square is about a 10 min walk. The Saturday morning market just round the corner from the hotel is well worth a visit. Overall we had a fantastic weekend and would stay again.
“Venice in Springtime”
Hotel was a bit tired, but warm & comfortable, although the view from our window was not great. But it was more than made up for by the staff who were brilliant & very helpful, even helped us check in on line for our return journey. They gave us plenty of useful advice & help. Breakfast was served on the 1st floor through main entrance (which kept you fit) and was plentiful, of good quality & not rushed. Hotel has a nice, small lounge with balcony to relax in after a lot of walking. The position of the hotel couldn't have been better, 2 mins from Rialto Bridge & waterbus stops, which meant it was very easy to find. We saw a lot of people who were having difficulty finding & losing their hotels. There were loads of good restaurants & bars in easy reach. We really enjoyed our stay.
“Great location & value”
Check in reception is in neighbouring hotel, Locanda Antica Sturion (bad smell in this reception). Rooms in Locanda Ovidius are on 1st floor - there is no lift, Sitting room with balcony has STUNNUNG views across the Grand Canal - beuatiful day and night. Breakfast is in Locanda Antica Sturion. - One floor above the sitting room of this hotel - htere is a lift to the second floor. Breakfast room has view over Grand Canal and balcony as floor below. Rooms very hot ( we were there in February) Meats, cheese, toast (which launches out of the two toasters!), cereals and packed croissants/brioche prived a very reasonable breakfast 8:00 - 10:00 Fridge with mini bar can be used for own drinks. Beds very hard, room & en-suite a little dated but very clean. Clean sheets & towels every day, TV has no English channels & very unstable on bracket. All staff very courteous. Would recommend to all and will stay again if we return, V Good value for money.
“Pleasant authentic Venician hotel”
Nice enough hotel - old and a little tatty but with character and this is to be expected in an authentic canal building. Breakfast was okay, and the breakfast room overlooked the canal and the Rialto Bridge which was great. Receptionists all very pleasant and helpful. Bed a little firm and the bathroom was not that great, but again the room had kept an authentic period feel. Great location for sightseeing.
“Recommend!”
A small, friendly hotel...clean and with opulent style. Basic facilities provided. Great location...right by the Rialto Bridge. In fact, the balcony of the breakfast room overlooks the canal. Stunning. We had a lovely stay. Hope you do too x
“Worst hotel I've stayed in”
The room we were shown to was dreadful. Small, sparsely furnished, overlooking the shabby side street where the entrance to the hotel is to be found. I would consider it to be expensive at half the price we were charged. The en-suite was small, and not easy to get into the shower cubicle. The owners should be ashamed at charging what they do for this. It might be appropriate for someone looking for a cheap bunk for the night but not at this price. After complaining we were shown to another room, which was accessed up a steep narrow staircase to the bathroom level, and then a narrow spiral staircase to the bedroom. The room was basic with a step across the middle which we kept tripping on until we got used to it. No table/desk upon which to put anything. The shower rail was loose and did not hold the shower head. A feeble shower - low water pressure or a clogged up shower head. The overall fabric of the place is poor and in need of a complete overhaul and cleaning. Wallpaper hanging off, broken chandeliers, missing light bulbs, bare plaster board walling on the main stairway. Breakfast was cheap, poor quality and uninspiring. Supplement required for fresh coffee - otherwise coffee was found in a flask. Prepackaged croissants, dry bread and very basic cold buffet. Reception was often unattended - the "Back Soon" notice always seemed to be there. I strongly recommend anyone booking in to inspect the allocated room before signing anything.

Area:
San Polo, Venice, Italy: Home of the Rialto Market, San Polo is the busiest sestiere (district) after San Marco. For local colour, great little shops, bars and cafes, the Rialto market area is a must. Dining on the Grand Canal next to the iconic Rialto Bridge is a romantic Venetian cliché. Near the bridge, the Ca Pesaro is home to the Museum of Modern Art while 16th-century masterpieces are on show at the Frari church and Scuola Grande di San Rocco.
