“DON'T GO”
Staying at The Gritti was a HUGE disappointment. It was a special trip and I wanted to be sure we were looked after. We upgraded our room on arrival as the first room was a disaster. We ended up in one of the best rooms overlooking the Grand Canal. The decor was that of a 2* hotel. The ancient bathroom was up several steps. The windows with the glorious view did not open as the dowdy curtains hung too close to them. The furniture was broken and simply junk. The walls were painted in a finish that passed as trendy in a station hotel in an industrial town in around 1981. The staff were rude and unhelpful and worst of all you were forced to listen to the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber being played at shattering volume on the terrace below until midnight every night. It was therefore impossible to sleep and no one seemed to care much. The terrace is glorious and makes you forget the vastly inflated prices that you are paying for a drink. I don't mind spending my hard earned money on a quality experience - but this wasn't it. I have stayed at the Bauer, the Danieli, and the Cipriani - all these are in a different class entirely to the Gritti which should be closed and repaired immediately. A legend of Venice is now a joke. I could go on - but you must have got the message by now. Don't go.
“not bad”
for me its not bad but not a perfect one
“Gritty Palace luxury retreat”
The weekend was perfect. The flight was on time and the BA service was impeccable as expected. The Gritti Palace is and will always be one of the best hotels in Venice and I would not hesitate in staying there again as the guests are treated like gods and staying in a place with such history is a must do. Venice is expensive, but that is to be expected as the city is in itself a 5 star location. Expedia is a wonderful tool to organise your trips and vacations and I will continue to use their service for all my travel requirements.
“Wonderful first class historical Venetian Hotel”
The Gritti Palace Hotel is beautiful but expensive. Drinks on the terrace bar is a wonderful experience with fantastic views. Breakfast very good but currently 30 euros per person. We didn't eat in the restaurant but it was fully booked on Saturday night so presumably is good. Room was lovely but very few have views, we had a view of a gloomy courtyard but we had a good rate so didn't moan, and were hardly in it. Spotlessly clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location.
“Fabulous hotel in everyway!!!”
Loved it-the rooms the restaurant, the food, the service, the concierge-all over the top!
“Over Priced”
Nice hotel but way over priced, but so is everything in Venice. The Bar staff were terrific, the conceirge and check-in staff were OK. I was expecting a canal view room but got no view at all.
“A hotel with 5-star prices and 4-star service”
My wife and I spent 5 nights at this hotel in late March'09. The hotel location is super. It's ~ 7 min to San Marco, ~15 min to Rialto and ~10 min to Academia. It's on the Grand Canal (although just a few rooms have Grand Canal views, ours didn't), a vaporetto station is around the next building. Because it's ON the canal, it's subject to floods. One happened during our stay. Boy, it was fun! Our room was very clean and not large, but enough for 2. The bed was super comfortable. All the walls are covered with fabric. All the furniture and mirrors are very old (or have antique look) - beware, high-tech lovers :) It's NOT a hotel for those who like modern deluxe hotels. Pricing for additional services in the hotel was the thing we didn't enjoy. For example, a buffet breakfast costs around $140 for 2! So, if we want to eat on the famous terrace, it's gonna cost you. Another example. If you want a ride to Marco Polo airport from the hotel, it'd cost you around $230. Also, we didn't like the fact, that we had to open the heavy hotel doors by ourlelves all the time. Not a 5-star hotel feel...
“Vornehmes Luxushotel in bester Lage”
“Fabulous service, fabulous experience”
We hesitated to stay here because it is a bit expensive, but we were so pleased with our 4-day visit that we are planning our next visit. The staff is excellent, the rooms are sumptuous, and the location is perfect.

Area:
San Marco, Venice, Italy: San Marco (St Marks) is quintessential visitors Venice. The Piazza San Marco, famous for its pigeons, campanile, basilica, Palazzo Ducale (Doges Palace) and expensive cafes, is unmissable. The waterfront views are legendary and more gondolas depart from here than anywhere else in the city. In season the Piazza teems with day trippers though just a block or two away streets are quiet and offer more museums and palaces to explore.
