Mandatory Fees and Taxes

The following mandatory hotel-imposed fees are charged and collected by the hotel either at check-in or check-out.
- A tax is imposed by the city: EUR 4 per person, per night for guests 16 and older and EUR 2 per person, per night for guests aged 10-15 years old. The Cocktail Bar - Second-storey bar-lounge open late morning to late night for snacks and drinks. Expansive lounge room with high wood-beam-and-tile ceiling, marble floor, highly polished wood bookshelves, yellow and red leather armchairs, potted plants, and balcony with side-canal views through four Byzantine arches. Adjoining bar room with parquet floor and etched frosted-glass windows.

The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but guests receive a 15 percent discount at HK Wine Bar & Restaurant which is owned by the hotel.

“Second stay there. Great location”

This is the second time I stayed in this hotel. The first time several years ago I was in a suite on the second floor and this time stayed in a junior suite on the 4th floor. Actually preferred the junior suite, it was a huge room (room 48) with a canal view. The breakfasts were good, it is rare to get any hot food at breakfast in italy so the eggs and bacon/ham were very nice. Everything was great. The location is so central it is amazing.

Area recommendations

Stay in saint marco so you can walk around early in the morning and late at night to avoid the swathes of tourists.

“Fantastic”

A small hotel in a traditional decor. I opted to upgrade to the suite, which although expensive, offered a very large room with jacuzzi and canal view, as well as a safe, hair dryer etc. The staff were fluent in English and very helpful. There is a small but lovely terrace backing right onto the canal where you can sit for drinks, although you have to ask at reception for a waiter to be sent as they are not stationed there. The location is perfect - easy to find, facing a canal on 2 sides, and just 2 mins walk from St Marcs Basilica but not right in the hussle of the square. Breakfast was pastry, cake, egg and bacon with tea coffee etc - as you would expect - in a lovely room with polite staff. The hotel cleanliness and decor was great. I could not fault this hotel at all.

Area recommendations

San marco is a must, but is very (very!) expensive and crowded! The island of Murano is serene and worth a visit, and Rialto is good for shops and restaurants.

Getting there

A water taxi from the airport is very expensive - 110 Euros each way as a set fare, but they are very cool! You speed along overtaking all the water buses! the water bus (alilaguna) is the easiest option at 25 euros return and no connections - however the journey takes 1 hour to rialta or 1.10 to san marco, and you will also have to wait for the bus...sometimes up to 1 hour. The cheapest option is the express coach to piazzale roma, then the water bus to your destination, which is about 20 euros return and quicker than the alilaguna.

What to pack

it is possible for the streets to flood, so waterproof shoes could be useful!

Shopping

The Murano glass sculptures and vases are absolutely amazing, but bring 400-5000 Euroes with you if you want to take one home! The quality and design stands out. they are about the same place in Murano itself as in Venice so not worth a special trip just for that.

Dining

Hit and miss! ignore the reviews and find your own restaurants. We had a poor meal at a top rated restaurant and an excellent meal at a low rated restaurant.

Nightlife

There aren't any music bars that we found. Best to research in advance where a late night bar is, as the only place we found was the hard Rock cafe, which is expensive and lacks atmosphere. The Venic jazz club is excellent for music but 20EUR entry and closes early (11pm).

“An oasis of calm”

A very comfortable, very quiet hotel right in the midst of all the action. Our room was huge and had a view of a small bridge and canal - very Venice.

“Impressive”

“Magic weekend!”

Hotel Dona Palace made our Venice experience an amazing one! Our suite was beyond amazing - the ceiling height, the beautiful Venetian furniture, the crisp linens in the lovely bed... The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! Warmly recommended - we will certainly go back and stay there again. Our suite faced the canal with all the rustle and bustle it brings, but we liked the feeling of being "in the middle" of the exciting Venice life and enjoyed hearing and seeing gondolas with serenading vocalists through our windows!

Area recommendations

Try to stay as near as possible to St Mark's Square, the venture out from there!

“Hadi”

Hotel location is new S. Marco. Very easy to access with WaterBus or WaterTaxi. Stayed in Junior Room. Room was wonderful. Silent. Clean. Large room. Very clean and comfortable bathroom. Very small TV (not suitable for room size). Internet is good. Breakfast has a few items.

“one Word "Fantastic"”

If you thinking to go to Venice this hotel is the one for you round the corner of the main square in that beautiful city. And the quality of the hotel is excelled, when I back to Venice. I sure I will use this hotel again.

“Loved it!”

Loved this hotel, its location and service. Both the front desk and breakfast staff were friendly and very helpful and couldn't do enough. The room was good, clean and great shower. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

When to go

If you can go in the winter as less peoply, cheaper and you are not battling to constantly stay cool!

“Would return with some reservation.”

Perfect location. We were upgraded which was wonderful. The service desk was mixed. The morning person was super however, the later help was distant and you got the feeling you were a drag on them when you requested an answer or direction. So mixed reviews on service. They offered discounts on several nearby restaurants that were part of their properties. We tried only one of them and it was not worth the discount. My advise would be to avoid them. There are too many great places in Venice to waste time in unremarkable ones. Overall, it was a good place for us to hang our hats for our wonderful visit to Venice.
