Away from the maddening crowds Posted 17-Jun-2015
Being across the Giudecca Canal from Venice has its pros and cons. Biggest con: having to hop on a water shuttle every time you want to go to/from the action of Venice. It's also it's biggest pro: Giudecca Island is a quiet oasis from the touristy chaos, it has ample choices of restaurants including Harry's Dolci and Altonella's Trattoria(do not miss their gnocchi), just a few shops and a sunset view from along the canal. Having access to the Executive Lounge was stellar. One evening they had an octopus salad which was fantastic. The big breakfast buffet in the main dining area is fabulous. Wish the executive lounge had champagne, & wish they would offer the beer/wine/hor d'ourvres for more than 2 hours as we usually missed it getting back late from the mainland. The star of the hotel is the rooftop pool. Although they need to create more shade up there and more comforts like pillows, the views especially at sunset are knock outs. Also they are foolish to close the pool at 8pm when there is still so much beauty and opportunity to make big $ on bar drinks! The pool menu needs more variety and the pizza was an embarrassment. The pool staff was friendly and fun. Our room, a non upgraded twin, was spacious, elegant and perfectly lovely. Would have loved a canal view but it was a busy week there. I would highly recommend the "Stucky" ! Enjoy!
